Small pleasures such as sipping tea are what make life worth living, a survey found.

A poll reveals we crave simple things, not money or possessions.

Witnessing or receiving an random act of kindness was voted top (34%) for bringing us pure happiness. It was followed by slipping under freshly laundered sheets on 32% and getting an unexpected gift (30%).

Bagging a bargain (24%) and the first sip of tea in the morning (23%) also made the top 20.

Some 27% of people revealed they need cheering up, citing cash worries and work stresses.

The survey found 32 is the age most feel their happiest, with family (76%), friends (46%) and pets (41%) bringing us delight. However, 94% of people agreed joy is all around us... we just have to choose to perceive it.

Some 2,000 people took part in the poll for Samsung, which is today opening a “Joy ATM” in Oxford Street, central London.

People can win free gifts in exchange for acts of joy, it said.
