Ederson makes 'blue' promise to daughter if Man City win Champions League
Ederson hopes he is left looking blue after Manchester City’s Champions League final showdown on Saturday.
City goalkeeper Ederson dyed his hair blue to celebrate Pep Guardiola’s side retaining the Premier League title last month – their third in a row. The Brazilian revealed the blue hair was a request from his eldest daughter Yasmin - and he vowed to do it again if City beat Inter Milan in Istanbul to clinch the Treble.
“My daughter asked me to dye my hair blue for that," said Ederson. It was a kids' spray that comes out with water. Of course, if we are champions again, I’ll dye my hair blue again, but only with the kids' spray that comes out with water – nothing permanent!”
Asked if he could persuade the entire City squad to follow him by dying their blue, Ederson said: “I’m not sure, there are a lot of players who don’t have hair!” Although City have done the Double, retaining the title and winning the FA Cup, Ederson said they will not be satisfied until they have added the Champions League to complete the Treble.
“The last couple of weeks have been absolutely brilliant, being able to lift the Premier League and then the FA Cup and it really gratifies all the work we have put in so far,” said Ederson. “It’s important to be able to celebrate the victories and to take advantage of winning these tournaments, but now it’s total focus on the next game, which is the next final.
Pep Guardiola went back on his word after blocking last-ditch Barcelona transfer“We’ve all been working for this for a long time. The whole team has seen a lot of victories, but also defeats as well. The players who have been here for five or six years, who have seen these sorts of defeats, we've learnt from them so that helps us to grow as a team.
“This is what we all want, so we’re going to prepare well to go out on Saturday. We’ve got to approach it as we have done throughout the season. We know, of course, it’s a final on Saturday, which is different, but we’ve got to approach this with the same passion and the same way we did previously – there aren’t any changes for this game.”
Ederson, 29, exudes calm on the ball, even when pressed by opponents, and claimed he never feels under pressure - even with so much at stake playing for City" “I don’t feel pressure at all,” said Ederson. “I think any City keeper needs to be calm, to play with personality.
"There are a lot of teams that try to pressure us, so you need to be calm, get the ball under control and have the vision to find the right pass. Even if you misplace the pass, I remember a game against Tottenham where I misplaced a pass and it led to a goal.
"I said to my team-mates after ‘You can still pass to me’, because errors are part of the process. Errors help us to grow, we learn a lot from mistakes. I mainly learn from errors. You can learn a lot more from making a mistake than you can from doing things right, or from winning.
"So I always try to keep calm, to pass this calmness onto my team-mates as well, so they know they can play the ball to me and that I’m calm enough to make the right decision.”
