Danny Bonaduce is set to undergo brain surgery for a rare neurological disorder.

The Partridge Family star's health battle began in April last year when he noticed his speech was affected and he could not walk or balance.

Over the following few months, he went through "hundreds of doctors" and at one point was hospitalised for five days while undergoing a series of tests, where doctors ruled out a stroke but still couldn't figure out the diagnosis.

Only recently was he finally diagnosed with hydrocephalus, which is caused by a build-up of fluid in the brain.

"My life was talking to doctors. I had meetings with five doctors on one single day, and nobody could figure out what it was," the 63 year old said.

Speaking to TMZ, he continued: "And I thought, 'Well, this is a big deal. I'm falling down now. That can't be good.'"

While Danny now has the answers he's looking for, he still doesn't know what exactly caused it but has wondered whether it's because he's "done so many stupid things on reality TV shows".

"I took a guitar to the head. That hurt and was possibly the cause of all this. I got punched in the face by José Canseco, a 265 lb professional athlete. And by the way, I didn't hit the floor," he reflected.

Danny's surgery is scheduled for Monday and will involve draining the liquid from his brain through a shunt.

"From what I hear, if the diagnosis is correct, it'll be 50 per cent better right [away]. But I'd rather be safe than sorry," he said.

The star, currently doing his radio show from home, also added that he doesn't want to get his hopes up too high because he would be "completely bummed out if this doesn't work".

Danny's primary goal is to get his mobility back from the surgery to help him embark on his daily duties with ease.

In an Instagram post from April 22, Dany first informed his social media fans of the then-undiagnosed medical condition that was setting him back.

"A bit of news to share — I'm taking a temporary medical leave from my radio show. I'll share more when I know more, as I'm still working towards receiving a diagnosis," he said.

"What I do know is I need some time to focus on my health right now. I love my job and talking to you guys, and I'll be back on the air very soon. Charlie Chaplin, Willy Wonka, Danny Bonaduce. I've joined the club of cool guys with canes."

In his latest Instagram snap, fans wished him well for his upcoming surgery.

"Sending prayers your way. Believing your surgery will be a huge success and you will come out better than ever," one person wrote. Another added: "Sending prayers to you."
