Tom Holland has shared an update about his future as Spider-Man, teasing that he may return as Peter Parker but saying that meetings have been paused amid the writers' strike.

The actor, 27, is best known for having played the character - who goes by the arachnid moniker as an alias - in several films, after joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016.

He last appeared as the superhero in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) but it has been teased in recent months that he will reprise the role in another instalment of the film series.

Tom shared updates about the possibility of a fourth film whilst in attendance at the premiere of his new TV series The Crowded Room in New York City on Thursday (June 1).

The actor added that there has been "multiple conversations" but he stated in his interview with the outlet that the project is in "very, very early stages" at the moment.

He also shared an update about his future in the role whilst talking to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere, when asked about potentially continuing to play the character.

Tom said: "I think as long as we can do justice to Peter Parker. As long as we can keep elevating and making the films better and making them mean more, then I'll be there."

He suggested that he would be "the luckiest kid alive" if he got to reprise the role and teased "there's stuff going on," but said: "We'll have to just wait and see what happens."

It comes after producer Amy Pascal - whose credits include films in the Spider-Man series - told Variety earlier this week that another film with Tom and Zendaya is still in the works.

She said: "Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are." Amy said they are "in the process" of developing it but won't "get started" until the writers' strike has ended.

Tom made his debut as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War (2016), before leading the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), which was his first solo film in the role.

He later reprised the role in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and its sequel Avengers: Endgame (2019). And that same year saw the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

The actor most recently played the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which was the third instalment in the latest film series about the Marvel Comics character.
