GMB newsreader makes This Morning announcement after weekend of controversy
Good Morning Britain newsreader Sean Fletcher addressed This Morning return today after a weekend of controversy.
The future of the popular ITV daytime show was in doubt after the 61-year-old TV star admitted to lying about having a secret affair with a young production assistant.
Reading a statement from the network bosses on Monday, Sean reiterated to GMB viewers that This Morning was back on the air, with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary in as hosts.
“ITV has confirmed its daytime show This Morning will be on air today. It will be presented by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary,” he said.
“In a statement ITV said This Morning is not under review and there are no plans for the show to be axed.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundaries“It comes after presenter Phillip Schofield's resignation from the show on Friday after he admitted lying about a relationship with a younger colleague,” Sean added.
He also confirmed Holly Willoughby will return to the show on Monday 5 June, after the half term break.
“Presenter Holly Willoughby will return to the programme after the half term holidays on Monday June 5,” Sean said.
The future of the programme was thrown into chaos earlier this month after it was announced Phil would be stepping down from his role as co-host with immediate effect following a meeting with ITV bosses.
It then emerged he had a falling out with former BFF and co-presenter Holly, and Phil dropped another bombshell when he admitted to having an affair with a young production assistant who worked on This Morning.
Holly took to social media to tell fans she had taken time to “process” Phil’s admission, and said she had quizzed him herself when rumours surrounding his relationship with the young staffer emerged in 2020.
“When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not. It's been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie,” she fired in the post.
