'Emotional' Linda Nolan shares health update and says she's 'astonished'

Linda Nolan said she was "astonished" by the results of a new treatment for lymphedema.

The condition causes swelling due to a build-up of lymph fluid in the body and can be caused by a variety of things including faulty genes or damage to the lymphatic system, according to the NHS.

Linda, 63, developed lymphedema after having a mastectomy following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2006 and said she's been "plagued" by it ever since.

However, there may be hope on the horizon as the singer shared some good news on Twitter.

"Had another great day today, trying out a brand new lymphedema treatment," she shared.

"I’m astonished by the results and a little bit emotional. Can’t wait to show you the full before and afters in a few weeks time."

Linda's post was met with a flurry of support, with DJ Pat Sharp posting a praying emoji while another fan told the Nolan Sister to "stay strong".

Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, six years after her older sister Anne, 72, and four years before sister Bernie who tragically died from the disease.

Bernie died in 2013, aged just 52, while Anne, 72, has since received the all-clear.

Linda is still continuing her cancer journey and takes each day in her stride.

The star, who found fame as one-fifth of The Nolans – one of the most successful girl groups of all time - spoke about the effects of lymphedema last year.

She said: "For the past 15 years, this is something that has plagued me and now it’s gotten worse - I now have it in my right arm. Lymphedema is when one or both arms or legs swell up. It's caused by the removal of or damage to the lymph nodes as part of your cancer treatment.

"In my case, my lymph nodes were removed during my mastectomy and they were infected - which then developed into lymphedema.

"It's the reason why I always wear loose tops for the ease of getting them over my arm. There are treatments that help to reduce it and I've tried them, but you must work at it, so I have learned how to live with it," she told the Express.

When speaking to the Mirror last year about her health, Linda said: "My cancer is treatable – not curable – so I’m on constant treatments. I did a strong course of chemo where I lost my hair again and I was traumatised.

"Then I stopped the chemo because it was affecting my quality of life. It affected my legs and I had a fall while I was in town. It was in Marks & Spencer at three o’clock on a Saturday afternoon and when they came to help me up, I said, “I’m not drunk!” [Laughs]."
