The Turpin siblings may be free from the House of Horrors they grew up in - but their horrific ordeal is still ongoing.

A lawyer for some of the 13 tortured children says life on the outside world is "impossible" for some of them to navigate as they have been haunted and stunted by their captivity.

Attorney Elan Zektser, who represents five of the Turpins, explained: "All of them are doing fantastic in terms of what they've gone through. But if we're comparing them to everyone else, and where they should be, a number of them are in some serious trouble."

The 13 kids were held captive by their evil parents, David and Louise Turpin, but their horrific suffering continued when they were allegedly abused in a foster home.

In their parents' House of Horrors in Perris, California, the children were beaten, starved and chained up while living in squalor.

They were never allowed breakfast and barely survived on a diet of peanut butter, bologna, a frozen burrito or chips for lunch and dinner.

The traumatised siblings were stopped from using the toilet, had never seen a dentist, had little or no schooling and one had not had a wash in a year.

The vile parents would bake them food and bring them toys - but the kids were not allowed to touch them - and it was claimed the family dogs were treated better.

David Turpin, 59, an engineer, and housewife Louise, 52, had managed to cover up their children's miserable living situation for years by "home-schooling" them.

In reality, the malnourished children were often chained up for months on end and only freed to use the bathroom.

Back in 2018, 17-year-old Jordan managed to escape by climbing out of a window and going outside, which she had only experience a few time in her life.

Recalling the day she escaped, Jordan told ABC News: "It was literally a now or never. If something happened to me, at least I died trying."

Jordan walked along the road because she'd never been on the pavement before - and made a chilling phone call to the police.

"They hit us. They like to throw us across the room. They pull our hair. They yank out our hair," she explained. "My two little sisters right now are chained up."

When police arrived to investigate Jordan's 911 call, they found the group so malnourished they did not at first realise some of the brothers and sisters were adults.

Some of the siblings were found bound to their beds and furniture by chains and padlocks - telling police they were "starving".

In 2019, David and Louise Turpin were jailed for 25 years to life over 14 counts each of torture, dependent adult abuse, child endangerment and false imprisonment.

Sentencing the cruel pair, Judge Bernard Schwartz said: "The selfish, cruel and inhuman treatment of your own children has deprived them, your family, your friends and society - and especially both of you - of those gifts."

"Their lives have been permanently altered, and their ability to learn, grow and thrive."

However, the nightmare continued for six of the Turpin children when they were sent to a foster home run by an alleged paedophile.

According to ABC News, the abuse also included the siblings being forced to eat "their own vomit," as well as being forced to eat "excessive amounts of food, which led to eating disorders." Some of the siblings accuse their former foster father of "grabbing and fondling" them and "kissing them on the mouth."

Foster dad Marcelino Olguin, 64, has been charged with six counts of torture and seven for allegedly committing a "lewd and lascivious act on a child".

While his wife, Rosa, 59, and their daughter Lennys, 38, also face multiple child abuse charges. They were all released on bail after pleading not guilty in March last year.

Lawsuits filed in July on behalf of the alleged victims detail a harrowing scene in the Olguin home, which is just 10 miles from the House of Horrors they grew up in.

The Olguins and their daughter subjected the six Turpin siblings to severe physical, sexual and emotional abuse, allegedly urging them to commit suicide and threatening to return them to their "biological parents", according to one of the suits.

Court documents detailing the twisted abuse say Marcelino targeted two of the Turpin girls - and is said to have touched them sexually on their buttocks and upper thighs more than 50 times.

He also 'told them they were sexy, recommended they not wear undershirts, said they had beautiful skin, forcibly kissed them and pulled a minor on top of him,' investigator Thomas Salisbury wrote in an affidavit supporting the charges.

It is alleged the children were threatened with their hands being pushed into an electrical socket, were slapped in the face with shoes and made to sit outside.

It's also claimed the children were forced to recount their early experiences of abuse at the hands of their mum and dad in 'confession circles'.

Lawyer Zektser said: "They will tell you, if they could, they were emotionally abused more in that foster care house than they were in their own tortuous home. They were retraumatized and due to already being fragile, they were made 10 times worse."

Four of the younger Turpin siblings remain in foster care, while three are taking college courses.

The siblings are scrambling to learn everything, from how to handle money to engaging with other people, and struggle with talking.

One of the sons, Joshua, who is now around 30, told a judge at his parents sentencing that he still suffered from nightmares of his sisters and brothers being chained up.

"I cannot describe in words what me and my siblings went through," he said in a statement as he recounted the horrific abuse.

"Sometimes, I still have nightmares about what happened, like my sibling being chained up and beaten.

"I love my parents and have forgiven them for all of the things that they have done to us.

"I have learned so much and become very independent.

"I live in an apartment and go to a nearby college. I am getting a bachelor's degree in software engineering, and after I get my bachelor's degree I'm going to get a job as a software engineer and go to school part-time to get my master's degree."

Jennifer, the eldest Turpin sibling who is now in her early 30s, is an aspiring nurse with 72,000 Instagram followers.

"Saw this beauty today," she wrote alongside a pic of a rainbow in January.

"Just a reminder that after a storm comes a rainbow. Whatever you're going through, push through. You're stronger than you know. There's something beautiful right around the corner."

Another sister, Jeanetta, also posts regularly on Instagram and has interests in song lyrics, poems and nature among her interests.

In November, she wrote: "Yesterday is over and tomorrow is a new day so live in this moment while you have it because it is precious."

While Jordan, who escaped from the House of Horrors and called the police, left the foster care system once she turned 21.

She excelled at high school, going from a third grade reading level to completing the requirements necessary to get her diploma.

However, she struggled on a minimum-wage job at Taco Bell and had to sleep on her siblings' sofas because she couldn't access state-supported housing.

In February, Jordan explained that she usually cries most days while thinking about her childhood..

Describing her daily routine, she added to Elle magazine: "Then I try to get myself to eat. And then I start to do my makeup, but I cry, so I have to do it over. And then I try to do a TikTok, but I'm like, 'Oh, people are going to say this and that about me.'"

The aspiring dancer now has nearly 500,000 followers on TikTok and has received millions of views on her videos, which usually involve dancing.

Despite unimaginable suffering in her childhood, Jordan's TikTok bio says: "I love helping other people."

After becoming verified on the platform, she made a video thanking TikTok and her fans for their support, saying: "To everyone who has followed me or watched my videos, I appreciate you guys so much. I love you guys so much.

More than five years after their freedom, Zektser said their rehabilitation remains a "work in progress" and trust of others remains a crucial obstacle.

He said: "They all want to help people. Every single one of them, especially Jordan, talks about how they want to dedicate their lives to helping others — and I believe it. I think they can all get there, but it's about 100 times harder because of what they've gone through."
