One simple word that cost Prince Harry his relationship with brother William
One simple word has cost Prince Harry's relationship with his brother, Prince William and the possibility of any future reconciliation, according to a royal commentator.
Royal commentator Daniela Elser has discusses the personal price Prince Harry has paid for his newfound sense of freedom after publishing his autobiography, "Spare", and has said one particular word may have ruined any future he could have with William.
The "keyword" is found in a piece J. R. Moehringer, his ghostwriter, wrote for the New Yorker about the process of helping famous individuals tell their stories.
Ms Elser highlights a moment described by Mr Moehringer, where The Duke expresses his joy and relief at the book's sales and the truth being out there.
Mr Moehringer said: "He mentioned my advice, to 'trust the book,' and said he was glad that he did because it felt incredible to have the truth out there, to feel – his voice caught – 'free'. There were tears in his eyes. Mine, too."
Oprah Winfrey snubs Harry and Meghan as expert claims 'the tide has turned'The word "free" symbolises Prince Harry's pursuit of personal liberation and his decision to share his side of the story in his autobiography, according to the royal commentator.
By expressing his freedom and revealing intimate details, including negative portrayals of his brother Prince William, Harry has strained their relationship, Ms Elser claimed.
Revelations in the book, such as William's alleged aggression and jealousy, have caused a significant rift between the brothers, making reconciliation unlikely.
In that sense, the pursuit of personal freedom, as represented by the word "free," has come at the cost of his relationship with his brother.
"However, in pursuit of that single word – “free” – Harry has paid, whether he quite realises it or not, an extraordinarily high personal price," said Ms Elser, "Perhaps the most obvious loss is of his brother Prince William."
"Spare" portrayed William in a negative light, depicting him as petty, jealous, and even physically aggressive towards Harry, according to the royal commentator.
She suggests the chances of a reconciliation between the two brothers appear slim.
Describing the Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, she said: "Harry told audiences that the Prince had been “terrified” after William “screamed and shouted” at him during the Sandringham Summit"
She went on to say that he appeared to suggest his brother’s aides had been complicit in planting and leaking stories to the press.
"This was hardly likely to improve the channels of communication between Kensington Palace and Sussex base camp but really, none of this was smoking gun territory," said Ms Elser.
