Mick Jagger has emotionally paid tribute to Tina Turner following the singer's death at the age of 83.

The iconic Simply The Best hitmaker passed away after a long illness at her home in Küsnacht near Zurich in Switzerland, it was announced last night.

A spokesperson for Tina confirmed the music died "peacefully" at home and added: "With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model. With her music and her inexhaustible vitality, Tina Turner thrilled millions of fans and inspired many artists of subsequent generations."

As the news broke, Rolling Stone Mick took to social media to mourn the loss of his "wonderful friend" and pay homage to the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll.

Tina and Mick enjoyed a close friendship over the years, with Tina revealing in 2017 how she taught the Satisfaction singer how to dance and taking credit for some of his trademark moves.

Writing on Twitter last night [May 24], Mick shared a collection of snaps of Tina performing over the years, including two where he joined her on stage, and thanked the late singer for her friendship.

He told his followers: "I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner. She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her."

Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2017, Tina looked back on her friendship with Mick and revealed: "Mick wanted to dance — and I was a dancer — but he never gave me the credit! He said his mother taught him how to dance. But we worked with him in the dressing room, me and the girls, and we taught him how to Pony."

Tina's death was announced to devastated fans by her team last night, with the full statement reading: "Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock and Roll, has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model. Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, USA.

"She became famous in the late 60s as the singer of the band Ike & Tina Turner Revue, but later she became successful worldwide as a solo artist. With her music and her inexhaustible vitality, Tina Turner thrilled millions of fans and inspired many artists of subsequent generations. Global hits like 'What's Love Got To Do With It', 'Private Dancer' and 'The Best', more than 180 million albums sold, 12 Grammy Awards and over three decades of sold-out stadium tours around the world are just part of her unique legacy.

"There will be a private funeral ceremony attended by close friends and family. Please respect the privacy of her family at this difficult time."

Tributes have been pouring in for the late singer, with US president Joe Biden and former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton joining the likes of Beyonce and Dolly Parton remembering the music legend.
