Waterloo Road aired distressing scenes which depicted Danny Lewis stabbing Vinnie McCullen after the pair became embroiled in an aggressive fight on the school grounds.

The final episode of the latest series which returned to screens following an eight-year hiatus and certainly didn't disappoint with drama.

Vinnie, the boyfriend of Danny's estranged mum Marie appeared in the audience of the end-of-term show after attempting to get him to repay the £1,000 he stole.

But after noticing him in the audience, Danny made the decision to run away before Vinnie later discovered what was happening and pursued him.

As things became more intense, Vinnie threatened to throw Danny over the school bannister before the terrified teen whipped out a knife and stabbed him in the stomach, resulting in him falling to the floor while bleeding out.

Just moments after the graphic scene, music teacher Valerie appeared while looking for Danny and was left speechless by the scene as Danny dropped his knife before fleeing once more.

Fans instantly took to social media to share their reaction, with one writing: "Danny has stabbed Vinny! #WaterlooRoad," alongside a shocked emoji.

"Danny stabbing Vinnie was not what I expected. #WaterlooRoad," commented another.

A third tweeted: "Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Why, Danny, why? There's no going back from this now."

Following the attack, paramedics revealed that Vinnie was still breathing but in a critical condition as they treated him on the scene before rushing to hospital.

Later in the episode, Danny was seen spiralling out of control and the drama once again started to unfold with his schoolmates finding out there had been an incident.

During an emotional scene with headteacher Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin), Danny sobbed as he said: "He came after me, Vinnie.

"Miss, you have done all that you could to change where I was going but you can't change where I come from and that is always going to follow me," before the police stepped in to arrest him.

However, Danny appeared to be baffled by the situation as he was informed he'd been placed under arrest for stabbing Vinnie

But as the police attempted to take charge, Danny became distressed as he pleaded to see his dog Angel which resulted in him being restrained causing further distress.

As the dramatic episode came to an end, a teary Danny was seen with blood on his forehead as he sat in a police cell following his arrest.

Prior to the stabbing, Danny had been staying with Val who subsequently hid the knife in her classroom to ensure the weapon wouldn't be found by the police
