Jack Whitehall shocked fans when he made a dig at Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield during a recent TV appearance.

Audience members gasped as the star made the comment while starring on the BBC’s The Chris & Rosie Ramsey show with dad Michael.

The 34-year-old, who recently announced he is to become a dad for the first time, was answering questions from the husband and wife hosts.

Rosie said of Jack’s own dad, who he has often teamed up with for TV shows: “You two come across like you’ve got a lovely relationship.”

Comic Jack hit back: “Behind closed doors we’re like Holly and Phil. We don’t speak to each other.”

Loud gasps could be heard from the audience as host Rosie looked shocked and held her fist to her mouth.

Jack then turned to the audience and said: “What? Come on!”

The star’s comments come after it was claimed This Morning hosts Holly and Phil are ‘not speaking off camera’.

Insiders say duo’s relationship has been ‘tense for months’ and they recently avoided each other at pal Keith Lemon’s 50th birthday party .

A source told New magazine: “They recently went to Keith Lemon’s birthday party and didn’t talk all night.

“Holly also presented This Morning with Alison Hammond and it made her realise she’s her own person and doesn’t need Phil by her side. They’re not Ant and Dec.”

This Morning bosses are said to be in ‘crisis talks’ over what to do with the presenters following reports of a behind-the-scenes rift.

Holly started on the show in 2009 - taking over from Fern Britton as Phil’s co-host - and quickly became a TV favourite.

Phil has presented This Morning since 2002, but as popularity towards him wanes there are reports ‘fresh blood’ will be brought in.

It comes after Holly and Phil were caught up in the ‘queue-gate’ scandal last year when they were accused of skipping the queue to see the Queen lying in state.

More controversy followed this year when Phil’s brother Timothy was jailed for 12 years for child sex offences.

Phil, 61, is reportedly refusing to quit the show has hosted for 21 years without a fight.

A source told The Sun: "Phil doesn't see why he should go. It's his job, he has steered the show for more than 20 years."

Earlier this week it was revealed This Morning has lost 100,000 viewers as the ‘feud’ between Holly and Phil rumbles on.

It has been claimed that Holly has "cut ties" with her former TV bestie following a string of bumps in the road in recent months.

The Mirror revealed ITV are prepared to axe Phillip from the show if viewers ‘no longer believe in the chemistry’ between him and Holly.

Their contracts are up at the end of the year, with renewal negotiations set to start in the summer.
