It's safe to say that break-ups are never easy - especially when you've been with your partner long-term. But it's even more difficult when you have a selection of sentimental items left behind from the relationship.

One woman has found out how difficult this can be as she has claimed that she's keen to wear her 'beautiful' yet old engagement ring from her ex-fiancé despite being in a new relationship. While she has no feelings for the ex anymore, she's taken to the popular forum Mumsnet to question whether it's would be 'weird' to wear the jewellery since she has a new boyfriend.

Captioning post the post, she questioned: "Can you wear your old engagement ring?"

The woman explained: "I have been divorced a few years now.

"I came across my old engagement ring when cleaning.

Seeking advice, she questioned: "It's beautiful - I picked it myself and I can't see myself selling it, am I allowed ti wear it as just a ring or is that a no-no?"

The woman went on: "I do have a boyfriend so would it be a bit weird to wear it?

"There's no feelings there connecting to my ex, it's just a lovely piece of jewellery," she added.

Since posting, the woman's post has raked in a handful of replies - but not with the response she might have originally expected.

Flocking to the comment section, people were divided over whether it was appropriate for the woman to wear her old engagement ring.

One person suggested: "Wear it on your right hand. If the ex means nothing but you like the ring, I don't see why not - people keep their houses, beds etc!"

Meanwhile, someone else said: "I wouldn’t wear it on my ring finger, or ring finger on the other hand. But I would get it stretched to fit my middle finger so that there’s no doubt it was an engagement ring."

On the other hand, a different user was against the idea: "I wouldn't, I would sell or have it turned into something else. I would deffo feel odd if my wife wore an old engagement ring!"
