Newly-retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady has been offering an insight into how he spends his time away from the sport on social media: golfing and reading.

Brady, 45, retired from football on February 1 after 23 seasons in the league and now has plenty more time for his other hobbies. Golf, notably, is one of them, with the California native previously partaking in a series of The Match golf challenges over recent years alongside professional players and amateurs.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion even played with former President Donald Trump while a New England Patriots player. Now, Brady has revealed the heartwarming reason behind his love for golf and how it flourished through his father-son relationship from a young age.

He explains how in the form of a book review through three posts on his Instagram story, which pay tribute to his father and the sport he has embraced because of him. "I know you don't normally come here for book recommendations, but I just finished this one from Michael Bamberger in a day, and it's a work of art," Brady begins.

"My love for golf comes from the challenge of playing as an amateur, not from winning tournaments or collecting prize money. 99% of you have this same relationship with the game. That's who this book is for.

Brady continued: "My father is the reason I love this game so much. As the youngest of four, one on one time could be scarce growing up.

"Memories of walking the course with my dad, soaking in his knowledge of the game, and the world beyond it, are some of my most vivid to this day. Those are the rounds that made me fall in love with the game of golf.

'Men like Tom Brady Sr. and Sam Reeves are why that love is passed down through generations. Grab a copy, give it a read, then get out for 18 this weekend. That's what I'll be doing." Brady has combined football and golf over past seasons with mixed results.

In the aforementioned The Match challenges, Brady sports a rare losing record. That one win came when teaming up with then- Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers against fellow NFL QBs Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes at Wynn Golf Club in Paradise, Nevada.

The three-time MVP did not fare so well when paired with professional golfers. Brady lost in consecutive years alongside Phil Mickelson when facing Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning, then to Bryson DeChambeau and Rodgers.

Individually he has also featured in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am over the years. With Brady now retired and not beginning his broadcasting career as a Fox Sports analyst until next season, it is fair to expect much more golf content over the coming months.
