This man claims he has drunk nothing but fizzy drinks for the last 17 years and does not eat food.

Gholamreza Ardeshiri, from Iran, claims that he does not feel hunger, and when he gets tired, the only things that give him any energy are carbonated drinks, like the Pepsi he is seen pouring in one snap.

The middle-aged man, who reportedly repairs fibreglass for a living and made enough money to send both his daughters to university, told Iranian media that he stopped eating food in June 2006 – some 17 years ago.

He reportedly said: "There was no accident that caused the effects and I was not shocked. I still haven't found the reason."

Gholamreza explained how it all started, saying: "I had a strange feeling, I felt like an object like hair was inside my mouth, I felt that the head of this hair was inside my mouth and the end was inside my stomach, no matter what I did, it was not possible to remove this hair.

"It was like the hair was tugging in my throat and I felt like I was suffocating, it was so tight that I didn't know what to do. I can't really describe it, but it felt crazy."

Gholamreza said that the following day he went to the doctor's, saying: "Everyone recommended a different doctor, and the doctors, who could not diagnose my illness, then referred me to their colleagues.

"I was either in the doctor's office or the hospital from morning to night, but no one could diagnose my illness. There was no hair in my mouth, but the feeling of it was crazy.

"To get rid of this feeling, I went to every doctor you can think of until a kidney and haematologist said it's better to go to a psychiatrist and they introduced me to one."

He said that despite the help of the psychiatrist, he has still not got to the bottom of it, explaining that his family doesn't eat in front of him, as the sight of them eating food makes him nauseous.

Gholamreza also reportedly once said that he sleeps very little, about four hours a night, and goes through three litres of fizzy pop a day.
