This looks like a job for Double Roe 7… Dame Judi Dench has revealed she got a visit from the law after someone claimed to have seen her stealing a deer.

The 88-year-old, who played spy boss M in eight James Bond films, said she and late husband Michael Williams had herded the animal back into a park after it jumped out right in front of their car.

But the next day they were stunned to get a visit from officers who reckoned they had been seen doing a runner with it.

Speaking at the Stratford Literary Festival, Judi said: “Michael and I had come from the theatre and suddenly, in front of us, a deer shot out of the park.

"We stopped and with enormous difficulty we got the deer back into the park.

“The very next day the police came and said, ‘We hear you were seen taking a deer out of the park?’

"Michael said to them, ‘Well we’re in jolly good company, as William Shakespeare was caught for the same thing… the difference being we were putting it back’.”

The 16th century playwright’s crime is said to have taken place at the same park, Charlecote in Warwickshire – close to his home in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Chatting to pal Brendan O’Hea, who appeared alongside her in Bond film Quantum of Solace, Judi also revealed she is working on a new book about her Shakespeare roles.

And opening up about her mischievous side, she admitted once convincing a younger actor that Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner had been converted into a supermarket.

She laughed: “I said it had been turned into a Tesco for the Royal Family. It makes such sense.”
