Ex-employees of The Kelly Clarkson Show have brutally slammed the alleged "toxic" environment behind the scenes of the much-loved NBC programme.

Speaking out about the toll their jobs took on their mental health, one current employee and 10 past staffers of the show have complained about the working environment on the upbeat and positive programme.

The employees claim they are underpaid, overworked and have poor mental health as a result of working on the show.

But they are all "confident" that host Kelly isn't aware of the working conditions for her staff.

Instead, executive producer Alex Duda is branded a "monster" and largely blamed for "toxic behaviour" that's allegedly impacting staff's mental health.

The Rolling Stone report alleges that the "toxic behavior behind the scenes starts with Duda" and claims that she supposedly shields singing sensation Kelly from what the staffers say they are enduring.

Those who have spoken out are all said to be veterans in the entertainment industry, with some having worked on other daytime TV shows.

"I have a friend who’s an executive producer who warned me about taking this job, because apparently she has done this on every show she’s worked on," added the former employee.

The report highlights how employees have felt "bullied" and "intimidated" by producers, with one not able to "handle it mentally".

Someone spoke of how their job "deteriorated" their mental health, while another echoed this sentiment when they spoke of how they needed to take a leave of absence because of their mental health.

"NBC is protecting the show because it’s their new money maker, but Kelly has no clue how unhappy her staff is," one employee told the publication.

Mirror Online has reached out to Kelly's representatives and the NBC press office for comment.
