Police are to dig for the remains of a missing student following serial killer Levi Bellfield's reported prison 'confession'.

The monster is said to have told detectives in a prison interview this week that he had hidden the body of Elizabeth Chau in woodland 24 years ago.

The 19-year-old vanished on her way home to Ealing, west London, in 1999.

Bellfield is said to have admitted to the murder in a face-to-face interview with police amid claims he drew a chilling map of where he dumped her body more than two decades ago.

The beast also described how he had killed the Thames Valley University student, it has been claimed.

It’s believed he was grilled for six hours and his statement will lead to a fresh search for Elizabeth’s body, it is being reported.

Police are preparing to dig for her remains following the former nightclub bouncer's comments.

Bellfield is serving a whole-life term for the murders of Marsha McDonnell, Amelie Delagrange and schoolgirl Milly Dowler.

His written 'confession' prompted a visit from detectives from the Metropolitan Police's unsolved murder squad.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told the Mirror this morning: "On Tuesday, 9 May 2023 a 54-year-old male was interviewed under caution. Enquiries continue.

"We can confirm we remain in contact with Elisabeth Chau’s family.

"At this time we will not be providing an ongoing commentary. We have no further comment to make."

Bellfield's solicitor Theresa Clark said: "He tells me he feels it's important that her family have some closure. He wants to see justice done because they have had to live this for so long and that's unfair.

"He gains nothing from it, there is no positive publicity for him."

Milly was kidnapped and murdered in March 2002 aged 13. She was walking home when she was abducted in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. Her body was found six months later.

Marsha was beaten to death close to her home in Hampton, Richmond, in February 2003, before Bellfield struck again in August 2004, killing 22-year-old French student Amelie on Twickenham Green, in south west London.

He also attempted to murder Kate Sheedy by running her over in May 2004 in Isleworth, west London, leaving the 18-year-old with horrific injuries including a collapsed lung.
