Serial killer Levi Bellfield has confessed to the murder of a missing student in a face-to-face interview with police, it has been reported.

Scotland Yard detectives interviewed Bellfield under caution in prison on Tuesday, the Mirror previously reported.

Central to the investigation is the disappearance of 19-year-old student Elizabeth Chau who vanished 24 years ago as she made her way home in Ealing, west London.

It’s believed he was interviewed for six hours and his statement could lead to a fresh search for Elizabeth’s body. Reports claimed he drew a map of where he dumped her body.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told the Mirror: "On Tuesday, 9 May 2023 a 54-year-old male was interviewed under caution. Enquiries continue.

"We can confirm we remain in contact with Elisabeth Chau’s family.

"At this time we will not be providing an ongoing commentary. We have no further comment to make."

Bellfield’s signed confession is said to include chilling details of Elizabeth’s final moments and offered to show detectives the exact location where he buried her.

Police are said to be taking Bellfield's reported confession that Chau was his fourth murder victim "very seriously", the Guardian reported.

The paper reported that two detectives brought audio equipment with them to speak to Bellfield.

They started by telling Bellfield anything he said could be used against him in a trial.

They also brought a map of west London where it is claimed he pointed to where Chau's body is.

The paper also reports that Bellfield gave details on how Chau was kidnapped in her final hours.

It added that a second day was set aside for the cops to interview Bellfied, but it was not needed.

At the time of Elizabeth’s disappearance, he would have been 31 and working as a nightclub bouncer.

He earned the moniker the “Bus Stop Killer” because he stalked girls and young women who passed, approaching them in his van.

He was living in west London, not far from Elizabeth’s last known sighting.

She vanished as she walked back from Thames Valley University after she handed in an assignment.

The Mirror reported this week that his statement reportedly included how he killed her as well as admitting five other attempted murders.

Bellfield wrote a confession which was handed to solicitor Theresa Clark, sparking the police interviews this week.

Bellfield is serving a whole-life term for the murders of Marsha McDonnell, Amelie Delagrange and schoolgirl Milly Dowler.

Milly was kidnapped and murdered in March 2002 aged 13. She was walking home when she was abducted in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. Her body was found six months later.

Marsha was beaten to death close to her home in Hampton, Richmond, in February 2003, before Bellfield struck again in August 2004, killing 22-year-old French student Amelie on Twickenham Green, in south west London.

He also attempted to murder Kate Sheedy by running her over in May 2004 in Isleworth, west London, leaving the 18-year-old with horrific injuries including a collapsed lung.
