After weeks of speculation and even a sneak peek from Google itself, the Pixel Fold is finally official. The US tech firm has just lifted the lid on this bendy device at its I/O conference in California and it’s clearly taking aim squarely at the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold4.

The Pixel Fold features a huge 7.6-inch screen main screen that snaps in half to make it easier to pop in your pocket.

That massive tablet-style OLED display features an impressive 120Hz refresh rate for silky smooth visuals and stutter-free gaming plus there's some neat software that should help owners multitask on the giant panel. In fact, thanks to a Taskbar, Google reckons it will be easy to switch between apps or drag an app into split-screen mode so two can be run side-by-side. That means you can still answer emails whilst playing a game of Angry Birds.

Flip the Pixel Fold shut and you'll find a smaller 5.8-inch screen on the front of this device.

This also features a 120Hz refresh rate along with being covered in Gorilla Glass Victus for added strength. Just like Samsung’s foldables, the Pixel Fold’s cover display works just like a normal phone so you won’t need to flip things open to reply to texts, check the football scores or bash out an email. You can even start something - like watching a film - on the front screen and then open things up and continue viewing on the more expensive main display with the switch happening seamlessly.

On the rear case is a triple-lens camera system that comes packed with all the usual features we’ve come to expect from Google. This rear snapper includes a Super Res Zoom, Night Sight for evening shots and Portrait photography along with pro-level modes.

There are also some neat tricks including Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur which can remove unwanted objects from photos and sharpen family snaps long after they have been taken.

Thanks to the Fold's design you can also open up the phone and use the rear camera to take improved selfies with what’s being snapped showing up on the cover screen.

Head under the hood and the Fold is powered by Google's Tensor G2 chip which can easily cope with even the most demanding of tasks.

There's also a large battery that can be wirelessly and fast charged with Google boasting that users can get a whopping 72 hours of life with Extreme Battery Saver turned on.

Other features include an IPX8 rating so it can handle an accidental spill plus it’s guaranteed to be one of the first phones to get Android 14 when it arrives later this year.

So what about that all-important price?

Well, Google has confirmed that the Pixel Fold will cost a whopping £1,749 - that's £100 more than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold4.

If that price hasn't put you off then the Fold should be available in the UK soon.

It's not just Google revealing new foldable. Chinese firm Huawei has also just announced the release of its Mate X3 which it says is thinner and lighter than its rivals. This device also opens like a book and includes a clever camera, fast charging and a big cover screen.
