Jake Paul has insisted he will rematch Tommy Fury despite instead announcing he will fight Nate Diaz in August.

Paul suffered the maiden loss of his boxing career in Saudi Arabia earlier this year after losing by split decision against bitter rival Fury. It was expected the pair would do battle in an immediate sequel given the 'Problem Child' had access to a rematch clause as part of their initial agreement.

However in surprise fashion, Paul announced that he would instead be facing fellow rival and ex-UFC fighter Diaz in a clash on August 5 in the US. But despite ending chances of the pair renewing their battle in the summer, Paul has now suggested it will be re-explored at a later date.

"It's going to happen, it's going to happen for sure," Paul told Sky Sports. "I think it was a great fight, it was entertaining, it was the biggest pay-per-view buys in boxing for the last two years so I think we have to run it back. Tommy is down and I'm excited for that. "It's annoying, I think in boxing fighters are not willing to risk their undefeated record and put it all on the line.

"Their legacy and being undefeated is more important to them, because Floyd Mayweather set that example for the sport so if you lose you're 'swept under the rug' in boxing. But more champions should go and fight other big names, and that's why I respect Ryan Garcia for even taking the Tank fight. Even though he lost he did what a lot of other fighters aren't doing and making big fights happen."

It remains unclear exactly what will be next for Fury while Paul steps into a new rivalry, but Mirror Fighting understands his team are currently in talks with KSI over a potential bout. The YouTuber will now need to go back to the drawing board to plot any revenge against Fury which may now be delayed until next year.

Paul has come into criticism for choosing Diaz over a second meeting with Fury given the UFC star will be making his first appearance in the squared circle. And UFC president Dana White believes that Paul has now altered the course of his career after losing for the first time.

"I don't know man," White responded in an interview with Jim Rome. "I've been trying not to - I like Nate. Nate and I have a good relationship. It's just, listen, Jake Paul went out and fought a real boxer who was his age, his weight, and he lost. So, as soon as he loses, he goes back to a forty year old MMA fighter.

"He's smaller than him and not his weight. Listen, it's just one of those fights that - I know that some people are into this. It's just not what I'm into. It's not my thing."
