Magaluf mass brawl sees more than 50 revellers throw punches and kicks

A mass brawl involving more than 50 people broke out on the streets of Magaluf, prompting police to make arrests.

Several were injured in the skirmish, which erupted between two large groups of young people yesterday.

The partygoers were seen kicking and punching each other while throwing bottles in the chaos which reportedly lasted more than 10 minutes and resulted in numerous injuries of varying severity.

Several nightclub bouncers intervened but were unable to prevent the brawlers from kicking, punching, and hurling objects at one another.

Officers from the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Calvia quickly arrived on the scene and helped the bouncers try to end the fracas.

However, there were so many people involved in the scuffle that it took them a while to restore calm to the area, local media reported.

One local report said the incident was sparked by a fight between a group of North African youngsters and Spaniards, and ended up involving revellers from different nationalities.

But well-placed sources were saying this morning that rival groups of Portuguese youngsters had been involved.

The violence kicked off in the street outside popular nightspot Panama Jack, with one younger-looking lad seen knocked to the ground with a punch to the face and getting up before others started lashing out with their feet and fists, as witnesses screamed.

In March, a British tourist was arrested after allegedly mowing down two holidaymakers - including a UK teenager - in Magaluf.

No Brits are believed to have been involved in yesterday morning's violence.

The cause of the incident is unknown and is currently being investigated by the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Calvia.

At the time of reporting, the exact number of injured and arrested was unknown.

Magaluf is a hugely popular resort town on the island of Majorca that's popular with Brits. It has long been a hotspot of disorder, alcohol, and drugs which authorities are trying to stamp out.
