An awkward blunder on the BBC brought the Coronation concert to a brief stop today.

James Nesbitt was ready to do a piece to the camera before inviting Paloma Faith on stage to sing her track Lullaby, when the camera was forced to cut away from him as he waited to be given the cue to speak.

However, it didn't come - and there was an awkward silence, including from the audience, as the crowd and stage was shown. Moments later, it returned to James and he was there and ready to speak after getting a nod from someone off screen.

Viewers were quick to notice what happened and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One wrote: "Oh that was awkward! James Nesbit getting cold feet #coronationconcert #coronation," as a second viewer picked up on what happened and added: "the awkward looking at the camera x #CoronationConcert."

The Coronation Concert got off to an awkward start earlier this evening, with a swathe of social media users pledging to switch off before the coverage even began.

Before Kirsty Young even invited BBC viewers to “crack open the fizz and settle down for a night to remember”, many took to Twitter to claim they wouldn’t be tuning in due to the line-up set to perform at Windsor Castle.

“Just like the Coronation, I will not be watching the concert. Apart from anything else, the line up is execrable, as you might expect. So, Take That! #CoronationConcert,” one non-viewed told their followers.

“They had to do some digging in the career graveyard for this lineup #CoronationConcert,” another added, as a third quipped: “He’s the king of england this is the best lineup he could get #CoronationConcert.”

Earlier in the night, the Coronation Choir - a group comprised of the nation's community choirs and amateur singers from across the UK - wowed alongside The Virtual Choir, which is made up of singers from across the Commonwealth.
