Street Fighter 6 has announced the entire launch roster of 18 world warriors, as well as the four that will join them as year one DLC, but there's still some characters I'm desperate to see return to the streets for the latest entry in the series.

Street Fighter 6 is a little under a month away and is set to – like any fighting game released after 2010 – bring even more fighters into the fray through DLC updates. As Mirror Gaming's resident Street Fighter expert I've got some opinions on who should make their way into the new title.

Even though I loved all of the newcomers during my Street Fighter 6 preview, everyone has their main who will tower above all in their hearts – which is fine if you play as Ryu, Ken, or anyone else guaranteed to be in every Street Fighter game. But I can only sit and hope that Capcom will throw me a bone as it releases more DLC for the game.

So far we know Street Fighter 2's Akuma, Ed and Rashid from Street Fighter 5 and newcomer A.K.I. will make up the year one pass, but I'm sure we'll see far more DLC as long as the game continues to be popular. So, without further ado, here's five of the characters I personally want to see make their return for Street Fighter 6.

Cody

You know what immediately stood out to me when we first found out Street Fighter 6's entire launch roster? Even though the game's World Tour story mode takes place on the streets of Metro City – first featured in Final Fight – there isn't a single Final Fight character on the entire roster.

While yes, he was in Street Fighter 5 as DLC, I would pick former-street-punk-turned-Mayor Cody over Haggar and Guy simply because he's got the most unique fighting style out of the three – due to Zangief and Kimberly's move sets being similar to those two. Plus, Cody is the only Street Fighter character who actually has a Street Fighting style.

Alex

You know what else immediately stood out to me when we first found out Street Fighter 6's entire launch roster? Even though it's the first game in the timeline to take place after Street Fighter 3, no one from Street Fighter 3's new generation is included.

This is where the bias comes in; Alex is my favourite fighting game character period. With a move set based on 90's wrestling Alex was poised to be the guy to take the reigns from Ryu and become the face of Street Fighter – much like Luke is now. Again, Alex was in Street Fighter 5, but there's simply no other fighting game character that quite scratches that itch of his bombastic hybrid grappler style. Plus he's my boy and it's my list so...

Sakura

It's wild to me that Sakura isn't one of those locked-in characters that appear on every Street Fighter roster. Another candidate to replace Ryu as the face of the series (she even appeared in Fortnite before the likes of Ken).

Sakura is a dedicated Ryu fangirl who took his move set and added a little spice, so while we have 3 Shoto's in the game already, Sakura is easily the most unique one (outside of maybe Gouken, but that dude has to be long dead by this point). Plus with Blanka already in the game it gives them a reason to continue the greatest bromance in Street Fighter history.

Crimson Viper

Let's all be honest, while Street Fighter 4 singlehandedly revived fighting games, the roster of newcomers sucked. Capcom has decided to bring Juri forward as the face of Street Fighter 4, but in my eyes the most salvageable character is C. Viper

Playing like a mix between Fei Long and Captain Commando from Marvel Vs Capcom, C. Viper is easily the most memorable of the weak Street Fighter 4 batch, and could use a much needed Street Fighter 6 DLC tune-up. Plus because of her status as an undercover CIA agent sent to investigate Shadaloo, her presence could add a lot of intrigue to the story in a post-M. Bison world.

Dudley

The classy English boxer is my final pick, as hard as it was to choose between him and Sean as a final Street Fighter 3 rep, Dudley takes the title since Street Fighter 6 is also devoid of a Boxer archetype (yes, Ed is coming but he's a whole other story thanks to the whole telekinesis angle).

Equal parts Freddie Mercury and Chris Eubank, Dudley represents the classy side of the Boxing ring in the same way his Mike Tyson-inspired equivalent Balrog showcased the more barbaric side of the sport. Plus, Dudley's theme song in Street Fighter 3 ranks among the best, so a new take on that with Street Fighter 6's great sound team would be well appreciated.

While I could go on all day about other characters I want to see, I have to limit myself to five or we'll be here all day (which sadly meant I couldn't include any silly ones like Hakan, Dan or El Fuerte).

And considering how great all of the newcomers are, I may end up finding a new character to fall in love with as they add more as DLC... until they bring back Alex of course.
