Celebration nation as Britain unites for magical and historic Coronation day
Charles’ kingdom looked united in flying the flag yesterday as royal watchers young and old gathered at Coronation celebrations across Britain.
The monarchy had really worked its magic on one little girl in Manchester, who looked happy and glorious in a Union Jack-inspired fairy costume.
Another reveller in the city – where three giant screens broadcast the royal events – let the occasion go her head and waved not one, but two hats to mark the big day.
Mum Alison Hogg, there with her eight-year-old son Monty, said: “It’s lovely to have something like this in town.”
So many people gathered at giant screen get-togethers there were 833 UK road closures to help with the crowds.

The wet weather didn’t dampen the spirits of kids at Cardiff Castle, including three-year-olds Sophie Barrett and Clara Williams Clarke.
Sophie’s mum Rachel, 37, said: “We just wanted the girls to see a bit of history in action. This is a great family day out. We put them in puddle suits and now they’re having a great time.”
One farmer showed he was a dyed-in-the wool patriot by giving a ewe a crown and bunting in red, white and blue in Horton, near Swansea.
Revellers in Leeds were wearing the colours of the Union flag too and went for big bows. But in Southampton, one-year-old Reiya Power-Beech waved a traditional flag.

When Charles was crowned, cheers rang out through Liverpool’s Euro-vision village – set up to host this year’s song contest for Ukraine.
David-Jon Davies, 52, went draped in flags for both countries.
He said: “I’m a big supporter of the royals but I also wanted to show support for what’s happening in Ukraine.”
Millions saw the historic event on TV. But residents at the Court House care home in Cheddar, Somerset, watched it on a telly bought for the late Queen’s Coronation in 1953 – with an up-to-date iPad stuck to the screen.

She said: “The golden coach was magnificent. Everything seemed to be glittering and sparkling.”
But she believes Charles III will be just as dazzling and said he will make an “excellent” king.

Scores of people gather at Nottingham Castle earlier today where a special viewing of the royal event was being shown.
A sold out crowd saw people flock to the castle at around 10am and provide a "buzzing" atmosphere.

Angela, 48, said: “I’m buzzing, I love it. We’ve got an extra day off for the bank holiday. It’s a once in a lifetime thing. We normally have a big party at home but with the castle home we get to see it here. For me, I’m buzzing.”
Martin, 44, added: “It’s making the most of a monumental moment.”
47-year-old Bernadette Thomson, from Sherwood, said: “What a fantastic occasion. It’s been a long time since Queen Elizabeth's coronation, you have to come along. You have to come to the Castle for it, the big screen and we’ve got Prosecco as well.”
Wearing a crown and enjoying a glass of prosecco Mary Gleeson added: “It’s wonderful, it’s lovely.”

Divya said: “We are pretty excited, it’s really our first experience of the coronation and the United Kingdom.”
While Ruchira said: “It amazes us, seeing the King and also the castle.”Aditi added: “We haven’t been to the castle before. I find Nottingham to be quite beautiful.”

Jayne said she got emotional watching the king get crowned and both of them were in London last year for the Queen's Jubilee. Also adding they’re loving the warm weather.
10-year-old Leo and seven-year-old Eliza, who both made their own t-shirts. for the Coronation, with Eliza saying she’s loved watching the ceremony and was excited to get an ice cream.
