Jack Whitehall watched King Charles III's Coronation in Hyde Park after teasing that he hadn't been invited to the event itself because of his past jokes about Princess Kate.

The comedian, 34, has joked about having been a pupil at Marlborough College in Wiltshire at around the same time as Princess Kate, 41, in stand-up routines in the past.

He recently teased that such gags are the reason for his absence from King Charles III 's Coronation at Westminster Abbey, joking that he was not invited to the ceremony.

One routine, performed at a show in 2012, saw Jack joke that his mother Hilary Whitehall felt it was a "missed opportunity" that he didn't end up marrying Princess Kate.

He said: "She wants me to get married to [Princess Kate]. It's made slightly less mental by the fact that I was at school with [her] so my mum sees that as like a missed opportunity."

Jack, who told the audience that Kate was a few years older than him, said: "Like I stood a chance." He added that he hadn't been "particularly cool" when he was at school.

He teased about his mum in the set: "She gets annoyed at me now. She thinks it's my fault. She gets annoyed at me all the time and always brings up the [Princess Kate] thing.

"The other day I was staying at her house [and] there was a pair of my boxer shorts on the floor in which was the tiniest weeny little skid mark. [...] My mother walks in with the laundry basket, scoops it up. She's like 'that's why Kate didn't want you'."

Jack shared a clip of the routine on social media this week, writing alongside it in the caption: "Big royal weekend. I wonder why I was NFI'd? #coronation". The abbreviation 'NFI'd' is understood to mean "not f***ing invited".

The actor also joked about not being invited to the Coronation today (May 6) whilst he was a guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden just last month.

Asked if he would be going, Jack said: "I'm not going to the Coronation. I was NFI'd but I think maybe because of [a] gig that I did." He then seemingly whispered to fellow guest Sharon Stone that the abbreviation means "not f***ing invited".

Jack said that he once did a private gig at Kensington Palace for King Charles III, now 74, and Queen Camilla, now 75 - as they are now known. He said it was for a staff party.

"I did a load of jokes about like [Princess Kate] because she'd been at my school and I was referring to her as 'the one that got away' which he didn't like at all," he teased.

The comedian added that King Charles III had teased following the routine that they would "probably try a magician" instead for their next Christmas party.
