Mirror readers say Rishi Sunak is ‘too weak’ to be Prime Minister

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has been branded ‘weak’ over his feeble handling of the Nadhim Zahawi scandal - but did you agree?

The PM finally sacked the Conservative party chair Nadhim Zahawi on January 29 after he was found to have breached the ministerial code by failing to declare the HMRC investigation into his tax affairs.

Sunak’s judgement has been questioned by some Tory MPs, who believe Mr Zahawi should have been dismissed sooner and say the MP faces being dragged down by a string of scandals.

This comes as Rachel Reeves has warned the “weak” PM is “holding us back as a country”, as she argued the Tories are “out of time and out of ideas”.

The Shadow Chancellor added that Mr Sunak’s decision to not sack Deputy PM Dominic Raab despite the mounting list of bullying allegations against him “shows how weak he is”.

We asked Mirror readers if they think Rishi Sunak is ‘too weak’ to be PM, and 85 percent of responses believe he is.

A total of 1,026 people voted in our poll, and around 873 readers selected ‘yes’ to the question.

This opinion largely dominated the comments section, as one reader wrote: “The Tories themselves knew that Sunak was weak hence the non elected stuff. The Tories knew they would never win an election with this non-entity at the helm, and by the looks of it they were right.”

Another added: “Yes, but then they have all been weak. Constantly reactive and more interested in PR, than in people and voters. No matter what the headline now, I just think a general election is the only way forward now. Sadly that just feels a long way off.”

Meanwhile, around 14 percent of readers said Mr Sunak is not too weak to be PM, while one percent voted for ‘Other’.
