Finding a foundation that ticks all of the right boxes has been a challenge I’ve faced for around five years. I fell in love with a Dr Jart Beauty Balm a number of years ago which was discontinued, and I’ve not found anything that’s worked as well as my beloved BB cream since.

TikTok has fast become a place I look for cosmetics recommendations, and generally, everything I’ve tried has lived up to the hype, from velvet powder puffs to lengthening mascaras. So when I saw the BPerfect Chroma Cover Luminous Foundation trending, I had pretty high expectations.

The hashtag #chromaluminous has already racked up 3.9 million views since its launch in February, with shoppers comparing it to the likes of the £35 Nars and YSL, which costs even more at £38.

Priced at £21.95, the Chroma Cover Luminous Foundation sits firmly between high-end brands and drugstore alternatives like L’Oreal, Maybelline and Max Factor, where foundations cost around the £10 to £12 mark.

Similar to the award-winning Chroma Cover Matte Foundation, the new Chroma Cover Luminous Foundation is available in a range of 36 shades, with three different undertones - warm, neutral and cool.

I opted for the lightest neutral shade N1, which in hindsight was probably a smidge too light, but it soon warms up with a little bronzer. Their website has a really handy feature where you can input your current foundation and the shade you wear, and it will offer you the best match based on what you already use.

Made with skin optimising ingredients like uber-hydrating hyaluronic acid, rosehip oil and Vitamin E, combined with concentrated pigment to offer a ‘filter finish’ with buildable coverage and a luminous finish.

I prepped my skin with the Revolution Pro Miracle Cream, which has been compared to Charlotte Tilbury’s more expensive Magic Cream, before applying the foundation with a damp beauty sponge.

The foundation comes with a pump dispenser which allows you to release just the right amount of product - I find one and a half pumps is best for me, followed by a second pump for fuller coverage as a second application.

The product has a slightly thick consistency and spreads easily across the skin, blending well and offers a summer-ready sheen across the high points of the face. It’s definitely a medium coverage foundation, but does offer that buildability if you’re looking for something a little more heavy-duty for nights out or special occasions.

Typically for my more-makeup days, I’ve been using the Estee Lauder double wear, which retails at £37.50. It’s a matte foundation, and sometimes I’ve found it much too flat for my skin, whereas the Chroma Cover Luminous foundation offers some serious glow.

For me, the luminosity is perhaps a little too much, and so I like to use a setting powder under my eyes, around the nose and on my forehead, as these are the areas I typically get oily throughout the day anyway.

Once applied with a full face of makeup, the foundation retains your natural skin texture, which I feel is important in a base product, and you can customise the finish with powder to achieve a desired look. It doesn’t leave you looking cakey, and still feels lightweight on the skin, which is perfect as the warmer weather creeps in.

Other shoppers have also heaped praise on the viral makeup product, with one BPerfect customer commenting: “I love glowy looks so bought this and I'm very happy. The shade chosen was N8 on website but I am on the warm side so brought W8. Perfect for me lasted 10 hours and still looked good”

Another added: “This foundation is absolutely stunning on! Flawless on your skin, blends incredible and is really buildable. I'm converted for life!”

And it’s not just one of those products for younger beauty fans either - women in their 50s have also hailed the foundation as a ‘flawless’.

One said: “The match is perfect! This is a foundation that covers enough and has a bit of shine in it. I find it perfect for my skin (I am 58) as nothing gets stuck in any wrinkle etc, it's very light but covers just right. Your skin does not look "cakey" at all, but completely natural.

“For me, this is the best foundation I have ever used on my skin, not only the skin match but the whole package! the lightness of it, yet does the job. I will never use anything else.”

Another wrote: “I’m a 57 year old lady with mature skin, I absolutely love this foundation. It’s light and easy to apply, I personally prefer to use a brush. Nice coverage with a flawless glowing finish. I ill be buying again - it’s my number one foundation go to.”

Others have said it’s even better than bigger brands like the Nars and YSL, with one writing: “Amazing foundation goes on to my skin perfectly, I used to use ysl but this is a different level”

A second said: “As an older lady the holy grail of foundations is forever on my lookout. One thing that happens as you get older is redness coupled with dry skin. Longwear foundations no longer work as they break up and become patchy as your skin dries out. So when I saw the new chroma luminous foundation my hopes were high.

“I am pleased to say it’s everything it says and more. It’s lovely coverage, not too thick, not too thin. Easy to apply and wears well, especially when I wear it for 12 hours plus in my job as a Perfusionist. It is luminous, similar to Nars but at a much lower cost.”

Overall the BPerfect Chroma Cover Luminous foundation does deliver everything it promises - luminous finish, buildable coverage and a huge shade range. It performs well and feels great on the skin, I found the glow to be a little excessive for my taste but this can be rectified when set into place with powder or setting sprays.

At nearly £22, it’s not a bad price point at all, and will certainly save me money compared to Estee Lauder. I don’t think for me that it’s my forever-foundation, but having already got through half the bottle, it’s one I’d definitely be willing to repurchase in the interim while I continue my quest to find one I love as much as the now-discontinued Dr Jart Beauty Balm.
