Graeme Souness has aimed a shot a Gary Neville days after announcing his departure from his job as a pundit for Sky Sports.

Souness' last game for the broadcaster came on Sunday as Liverpool won a thrilling game against Tottenham at Anfield. He had spent 15 years with Sky, serving as one of their leading Premier League pundits, as well as having worked on the Champions League when they had the rights to that competition.

He clashed frequently with Neville during their time on the same panels when working on games. And he has now aimed a parting shot at the Manchester United legend, claiming that he has been left unimpressed by some of his "crusades".

"I like listening to Roy. I think the Chuckle Brothers, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher can be entertaining. It makes me chuckle anyway. He fights every cause going," Souness told the Up Front With Simon Jordan podcast.

"I've got to choose my words. I think he does overstep the mark with some of his crusades that he goes on. Because no one is really interested in listening to him on certain subjects."

Neville hit back at both Souness and former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan with a message on Twitter. The former United captain questioned Souness' comments and likened Jordan to former Tory Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

He said: "Are their two Graeme Souness’s? That isn’t the one I spoke to on Sunday! Jordan is like Boris. Will take everyone down with him."

Souness announced his exit from Sky Sports on Sunday with an emotional message. The broadcaster played a montage of some of his best moments during his time as a pundit, with Souness struggling to hold back tears.

“I’m going to miss you guys, the guys behind the scenes, our make-up girl, I’ll miss you all. You know, for me, I decided that football management wasn’t for me any more. I had the wrong temperament for it, the wrong personality," he said.

“And then I was given the opportunity to do this and it’s been magnificent. It’s just been the most fantastic time for me, because I love football, I care about football and I worry about it going forward.

“But in Sky’s hands it’s in good hands, safe hands, and I think over the years we’ve created a Premier League with great detail and I think we look after football very well. But for me personally, I’ve got the buzz of live football coming to some fantastic games.

"I think I owe 100 apologies to people, but we haven’t got time for that. I think people at home obviously don’t always agree with us, but it’s been great guys it really has. And it’s great right now to be amongst friends and nothing goes on forever."
