For Robert Hart, the challenge of becoming the best pool player in the world is well and truly on.

And yet, at the same time, such a task is nothing compared to what he's overcome before. The brother of comedian and Hollywood star Kevin was once destined to be a known name for simply that, not to mention his harrowing involvement with gangs and drug lords.

Indeed, the 51-year-old has battled back from not only his addictions, but also being ostracised by his family after regularly running into trouble on the streets of Philadelphia. It was a life that meant a previously broken relationship with his celebrity sibling, eight years his junior.

Hart Snr seemingly struggled for cohesion in his younger days, with father Henry serving prison stints amid a cocaine addiction. Robert stumbled down the same path, with mother Nicky cutting ties with him after he attempted to steal money from an elderly lady.

Fast forward to today, where the reformed character is among the top stars on the World Nineball Tour.

And the star is integral to the Matchroom Pool venture, with Eddie and Barry Hearn hopeful of achieving the same global success in the sport as they've enjoyed in pool and snooker.

The American has made clear his ambition of becoming the best player in the world, a possibility enhanced by a settled personal life which now sees the father-of-one sober, and back on good terms with his family.

And Kevin himself has outlined the newly formed bond between the two brothers: "My mum gave my brother a fair amount of freedom. Any mistakes you could make as a teenager, he made," he said, speaking in his 2019 Netflix documentary series titled Don't F**k This Up.

"And then there was two. It was just me and my mum.

"The way that my mum saw it, she was too lenient on my brother. She figured if she could keep me off the streets, I wouldn't turn out like him.

“We were not as close when we were younger. However, as time went by, I became closer to my older brother. So he’s now my sole brother and best buddy.”

The only addiction plaguing that 'best buddy' now is the quest for success at his next major tour event, the UK Open Pool Championship at London's Copper Box Arena on May 30.

Regardless of how his career at the table pans out from here though, Robert Hart has arguably already conquered his biggest challenges in life.
