Woman, 20, plunges to death from busy hotel leaving baby in room
A woman has died after plunging from the roof of a Times Square hotel in New York, leaving a baby in her destroyed room.
Police launched an investigation after the 20-year-old apparently jumped to her death, crashing down on some scaffolding over the sidewalk.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested.
Officers from the New York Police Department were first called to the hotel after multiple 911 calls came in at around 10pm on Tuesday night about a disturbance on the 10th floor of the OYO Hotel 157 W 47th Street in midtown Manhattan.
Shortly afterwards the cops were called about someone jumping from the roof.
Baby boy has spent his life in hospital as doctors are 'scared' to discharge himThe 24-year-old man was found in the room where the woman had been staying along with a baby.
The room had been trashed as if there had been some kind of fight. Police are investigating if the man had attacked the woman before she jumped.
Despite this police have said they do not believe at this point that he threw her or pushed her off the building.
Police had to use a stun gun on him in the hotel lobby as they took him into custody, it has been reported.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in what authorities described to be an "emotionally disturbed state".
The woman has not been identified.
The baby is less than a year old and was not harmed during the incident. The child was handed to a stranger as the shocking event unfolded.
Police have said charges are pending against the 24-year-old, which could be over child endangerment or the possible assault investigation.
