Meghan Markle was 'right to skip Met Gala' amid controversary attached to event
A host of celebrities descended upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the latest Met Gala yesterday, with them having showcased their fashion choices on the red carpet.
The event - which is held annually at the art museum in New York City - was themed around late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, for its latest gathering.
Guests were encouraged to pay tribute to him with their outfits for the occasion, which even led to some attendees, like Doja Cat, arriving dressed as Karl's cat Choupette.
Following the red carpet glamour last night, we caught up with celebrity PR expert Mayah Riaz to get her take on the fashion that was on display at the latest Met Gala.
Mayah suggested that the best looks came from Kim Kardashian, Margot Robbie, Naomi Campbell and Gisele Bündchen. She said their outfits were her "favourite looks".
Oprah Winfrey snubs Harry and Meghan as expert claims 'the tide has turned'She said that reality TV star Kim "looked divine" in her grown dripping in pearls, whilst actor Margot "did not disappoint" in her black dress which featured a sheer corset.
The celebrity PR expert added that Naomi "looked every bit the goddess" in her satin gown, whilst fellow model Gisele "looked elegant" in a bejewelled gown and feather cape.
Discussing the worst dressed of the night, she named singer and actor Janelle Monáe among them. She said: "Her statement attire was confusing and quite frankly bizarre."
Mayah continued recently: "She basically wore a transparent cone like dress showcasing her sparkling lingerie. She had a black and white jacket on top of the bizarre ensemble."
She also named singer Lil Nas X, saying: "[He was] completely bedazzled in silver sparkles, donning only a pair of ankle boots, underwear, and body paint leaving little to the imagination."
Sharing her thoughts on Rihanna and A$AP Rocky 's late arrival to the red carpet, the celebrity PR expert said that they took the term "fashionably late to the extreme".
She commented about the couple: "By the time [they] eventually arrived, celebrities had already left the event. Even organisers had begun to depart for afterparties."
Mayah commented that Rihanna's "dramatic" outfit was "worth the wait," adding: "You can always rely on Rihanna to provide one of the most memorable looks of the event."
She continued: "It's without doubt that their late arrival was deliberate rather than due to legitimate reasons. This is the Met Gala, celebrities do have it in their diaries and their glam squad on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly.
"Sure, Rhianna had a dramatic outfit which would get the headlines, but [there] are never any shortages of dramatic outfits. So was it to be talked about? I very much think so!"
Archie and Lilibet's titles 'need to be earned' by Harry and Meghan, says source"Or to avoid someone else at the red carpet. Otherwise, you'd have thought an accidental late arrival of this scale would have been followed by an apology," she speculated.
Mayah also shared her thoughts about Meghan Markle having been absent from the Met Gala, following recent speculation over whether she would attend the event.
"It's still unclear whether [she] was invited or not. However, if she was, I believe it was the right decision for her not to attend given how close it was to the Coronation," she said.
She speculated: "It could also have been due to the event being a tribute to [Karl]. The designer has a long history of making derogatory comments against sexual-assault survivors, immigrants, and fat people, among others.
"It could be something that Meghan would not have wanted to associate herself with and felt staying away would have been the best. This may have been decided by her or her new talent management agency who she is working with".
