Doja Cat dresses as Karl Lagerfeld's pet in strange tribute at the Met Gala

Doja Cat lived up to her name as she dressed as Karl Lagerfeld's feline Choupette at this year's Met Gala - and MEOWED in her chat on the red carpet.

Choupette was Karl's pride and joy and the singer really went for this year's theme which paid tribute to the late iconic designer.

The songstress, 27, certainly turned heads as she opted for the beautiful Oscar De La Renta outfit and bizarre cat face prosthetics.

It was certainly a big statement to make on her maiden Met Gala and she continued to MEOW during her interview with Vogue at the event.

The musician is no stranger to stand-out appearances and her prosthetics gave her a cat-like nose, mouth and lifted up her eyes for the strange look.

The outfit itself was a shimmering design with a dramatic ruffled train.

The style was complete with cat ears and a selection of stunning jewels.

But her look divided her fans online, with the strange look bringing a lot of different views.

Sharing her image on socials, one Twitter user jibed: "Well her name is Doja Cat. I'll let it slide this one time."

A second said: "Doja Cat showed up as a CAT. Doja is great for carpets, we never know what she’ll do. That's how fashion *should* be."
A third however was far from impressed, fuming: "Doja cat looking stupid as hell At the met gala."

And another joked: "Something about the new hunger games movie being all over my tiktok with Tigris and now Doja Cat dressed as a cat… feeling like we’re flying a little close to the sun #MetGala"

She wasn't the only fake feline in attendance, however. Another who took ownership of this year's tribute to a whole new level was Jared Leto.

While he didn't opt to combine beauty with bizarreness, he simply turned up in a full furry suit in the famous cat's honour.

Choupette turned down an invite to the gala, with the cat's social media page breaking the news to its devastated fans earlier in the day after weeks of speculation as to whether it would attend.
