A child actor who had a minor role in the iconic James Cameron film Titanic has revealed he is still making money 25 years later.

Reece Thompson, now aged 30, was just five years old when he played the 'Irish little boy' – a young third-class passenger who tragically gets killed alongside his mum and sister after the iceberg hits in the 1997 film.

In the legendary film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, the child actor could be seen waiting for the third-class gates to be unlocked so he and his family could escape.

Tragically, this never happened and Reece's character and his sister could be seen being tucked into bed by their heartbroken mother.

Reece had one line in the film, which occurred before the heartbreaking scene. He could be heard asking: "What are we doing, Mommy?"

To which the mum responded: "We're just waiting, dear. When they finish putting first-class people in the boats, they'll be starting with us, and we'll want to be ready, right?"

While the part was small, it made a huge impact on viewers, as it reflected the fate of many third-class passengers.

Reece, who is now a digital marketing director in Utah, has explained that he doesn't remember much of filming Titanic – but he's given a reminder that it happened every year in the form of royalty cheques.

Speaking to Australia's Network 10, Reece revealed: "Yeah, I still do [receive royalty cheques], it's true.

"But I haven't updated my address in several years, honestly since the last time I got interviewed for this.

"So, I haven't seen them [the cheques] in a few years. I'm just assuming that they are still coming."

In a previous interview, Reece spoke about how his mum decided to put him forward for the role in the movie about the 'unsinkable' liner.

He told Business Insider : "It turned out to be one of the highest-grossing films in history, so it's pretty bizarre in retrospect.

"My mom was like: 'Let's just do it. It'll be cool. Even if the movie sucks, we'll see it.' Obviously, it ended up exploding, so that wasn't a bad decision on her part, that's for sure."

He revealed he doesn't think about when the next pay cheque will be coming in, but he thinks it's "cool" when it does.

Reece said: "It's weird because it's not present in my mind anymore. It's not like, 'Oh, when am I going to get a new 'Titanic' check?' When it happens, it's like, 'Oh, cool, an extra $100 (£80).'

"There have been a couple of times where it's been like: 'Oh, wow, that's a $250 (£200) check. This movie's 12 years old. That's pretty bizarre,'" he said. "But hopefully, they keep playing it a lot because that means more money for me."
