Double amputee's ex-wife insists he was 'no threat' as he was shot dead by cops
Double amputee Anthony Lowe Jr was gunned down by police in California last week and viewing the footage of his death has broken his former wife.
Father-of-two Lowe Jr, 36, was killed in a hail of 10 bullets in Huntington Park, Los Angeles, last Thursday (January 26) after he tried to evade arrest by getting out of his wheelchair and hopping away while brandishing a large knife towards police who had arrived following reports of a stabbing.
When officers from Huntington Park Police got to the scene, they discovered a man suffering from stab wounds to the chest. They found suspect Lowe sitting in his wheelchair – he had lost his legs in another encounter with police in Texas – a few blocks away, but the LA County Sheriff’s Department say he pulled out a 12-inch butcher’s knife and made as if to throw it at the cops as they tried to arrest him.
Police made several attempts to Taser Lowe Jr, but then opened fire when he tried hurling the knife at them a second time.

The cops involved have been placed on leave “for a few days”, according to Lt. Hugo Reynaga of the LA County Sheriff’s Office, but no official disciplinary action has been taken.
For ex-wife Myissha Simpson-Lowe, who was married to Lowe Jr until July 2021 until she filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, watching the video of him being shot to death was harrowing in the extreme.
She told DailyMail.com: “Seeing the video broke me. He was helpless, not a threat. He couldn’t do anything. He was trying to get away.
“For them to do anything, it could have been done in a non-lethal way. What happened to rubber bullets? What happened to the beanbags they used to shoot?

Lowe Jr was unemployed and living with his mother Dorothy in south central Los Angeles at the time of his death. His mum also spoke out about his killing, saying at a press conference: “They murdered my son, in a wheelchair with no legs.
“They do need to do something about it. I just want the truth, nothing but the truth and justice for my son.
“Anthony was a good person. He was always there for his family. He’s our protector.”

Myissha also revealed that her former husband lost his legs in late 2022, but did not know why, although his older sister Yatoya Toy says it happened following a fracas with police in Texas.
