A drunk woman behind the wheel of a Porsche killed a man on a first date after hitting him at 100mph, police say.

Kristina Chambers, 32, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter over the death of Joseph McMullin in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday April 19.

Authorities have said Chambers was drinking at a nearby bar before driving her blue Porsche and hitting the victim.

Mr McMullin, 33, had been walking along the sidewalk with a woman after visiting a donut shop for their first date, Lt. Ronnie Willkens, of the Houston Police Department, said.

While they were taking a stroll, a car veered around the corner, lost control, and mounted the sidewalk before hitting McMullin, reported the Houston Chronicle.

Police were called to the scene at around 2.25am after the victim was hit so hard his body was thrown about 30 feet where he died.

The woman he was on a first date with was not hurt.

"We had gone to karaoke at AvantGarden," she told KHOU.

"When we got out, the taco truck was closed, but he knew Voodoo would be open.

"He asked if I wanted to take my car. I said, 'Well it's not that far, we can walk. Fresh air.'"

She told police she saw a flash and then couldn't find her date.

The car then ran into a poll injuring three occupants, Lt. Ronnie Willkens said.

The suspect showed up in court still with visible injuries.

She has pleaded not guilty with her defence attorney, Mark Thiessen, saying the collision was due to poor road conditions on the street.

“We're going to get all the evidence and the discovery and properly look at whether this was a crime or should just be a civil lawsuit,” Mr Thiessen said.

The hospital found that Chambers' blood had nearly four times the legal limit of alcohol, according to court records.

“There was a lot of alcohol in her system,” Assistant District Attorney Kelly Marshall said.

She added that suspected traces of Adderall and cocaine were also found in her purse.

The suspect has claimed she drank a beer at 9.30pm the night before.

One of the two passengers in the car with Chambers claimed she did not drink at the bar.

After hitting the victim and then the pole, a bystander rushed out of a nearby business to help those in the car out.

Chambers asked the good Samaritan to contact her family, the prosecutor said.

The judge overseeing the case ordered Chambers be held on a $50,000 bond and banned her from driving unless she gets a job. She is currently unemployed and her husband is the sole provider.

She lives in the Montrose area with her husband of six years, a portfolio manager. They live in an expansive $1.5 million home bought with a $1 million mortgage.

The victim's family described him as a music lover and a doting uncle.
