Emmerdale star Louise Jameson praised the show's 'incredibly important' storyline involving Mary Gorskirk.

The 72-year-old's character, Mary, started dating Faye (played by Jane Gurnett) after the former came out to her family.

However, it hasn't been all smooth sailing for the couple as it was recently revealed that Faye is actually a con artist.

Faye has been trying to take advantage of Mary and empty her bank account.

Next week will have viewers witnessing a physical confrontation that will occur after Mary learns about Faye's true intention.

Actress Louise said the storyline is important and opened up about how elder people are often scammed.

"I think it's incredibly important, especially for people my age who are terrified of appearing foolish," she said.

"The scammers are amazingly clever and sophisticated about the way they go about emptying people's bank balances.

"When I turned 70, it was extraordinary — it was like some algorithm had been alerted and ever since then, I would say at least twice a week I get a text, phone call or email offering me something at a ridiculously cheap price, or messages claiming they're an alert from my bank."

She added that she gets the help of her "younger tech-savvy friend" when she needs advice.

Meanwhile, it's Mary's friend Suzy Merton who first suspects Faye isn't all she seems, especially as she starts being cagey about a bank transfer for an auction.

Suzy tells Mary her concerns, but this only leads to her sending Faye a huge amount of money in the hope it encourages Faye to make the transfer.

The next day, Suzy offers Mary more evidence that Faye is hiding something and suggests she cannot be trusted.

Mary tries to shut her down, desperately wanting to believe her dream is still intact - only for the horrifying truth to be revealed, and soon Mary is left for dead.
