Ryan Reynolds has promised to give Ben Foster a prop from Hollywood blockbuster Deadpool as a thank you for his Wrexham contribution.

Foster, 40, joined Wrexham on a short-term deal last month after fellow goalkeeper Rob Lainton suffered a season-ending injury. The former Manchester United stopper was tasked with helping the Welsh club win the National League title, something they achieved last Saturday by beating Boreham Wood 3-1 at the Racecourse.

Foster agreed to give Reynolds, who co-owns Wrexham with fellow actor Rob McElhenney, his match-worn shirt after that game, with the Hollywood star hilariously interrupting a press conference to get it. In return, Reynolds has something very special for Foster.

Reynolds has promised to gift Foster one of his two gloves from Deadpool, the ninth-highest grossing film of 2016. The 18+ superhero film has gained a cult following since its release, with a sequel coming out in 2018. Deadpool 3 is set for release next year.

Reynolds is giving only one of the gloves to Foster because the other was gifted to Jay Fear, a Wrexham fan who has terminal cancer, before the Boreham Wood game. The classy gesture is another sign of just how much Wrexham means to Reynolds.

Foster revealed the news on his Fozcast podcast. He said: "Ryan Reynolds, he text me the morning of the game to say, 'Can I have your shirt'. I was like, 'Yeah, cool'. He was like, 'Cool, because I've got something for you as well'. I was like, 'OK? What on earth's this?'

"So, anyway, he text me yesterday and said, 'I forgot to tell you what it is. I was going through my memorabilia the other day of Deadpool, and I found the original gloves that I wore in the film.' The Deadpool gloves, his whole outfit's pretty famous, really, isn't it?

"And he said, 'I gave one of the gloves to a guy with terminal cancer the other day, but the other one I wanna give to you... because I see you give your gloves away all the time and you never get given back in return'. And I was like, 'Mate!' I am buzzing so much for this.

"This is going in a frame in the Foster household, like you wouldn't believe!"

Unfortunately for Foster, the gifts don't stop there. In an exchange on Instagram, Reynolds told the former England international: "I'm also gifting you the Deadpool underwear. Which, to be fair, smells better than the shirt you gave me."

Foster might be hoping for Reynolds to gift him a new one-year contract after his heroics this season. The goalkeeper retired from professional football following Watford's relegation from the Premier League last season but put his gloves back on to help Wrexham out.

Foster produced a crucial last-minute penalty save in the 3-2 win against promotion rivals Notts County to write his name in Wrexham's folklore. Reynolds would surely love Foster to carry on for another season, although it's unclear whether he's up for it.
