A dog walker was reportedly found dead by his mum hours after he was allegedly assaulted by a schoolgirl and two boys in a brutal attack.

John Hackett, 36, was named by the police as the man who died in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, on Wednesday morning.

Police have since arrested a girl, aged 15, and two boys, also aged 15, on suspicion of murder.

All three remain in custody at this time.

Warwickshire Police believe an altercation happened at about 6.15pm on Tuesday at the Snowhill Recreation Ground.

John was found dead on Wednesday morning at a property thought to be his mum's who he cared for.

His next of kin has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.

One neighbour told The Sun: “He helped care for his mum, she’ll be devastated without him and I don’t know how she’ll manage.

"I want to know she’s OK but she’s not been at home and police at the cordon won’t tell me anything.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Collette O’Keefe said: “A number of enquiries are currently ongoing, and we would continue to ask anyone who may have any information about John’s death to please get in touch as soon possible.

“We recognise this is a concerning incident - which we are treating as isolated – and would like to reassure the local community that a full investigation is underway.

“Officers will remain in the area over the coming days as they carry out enquiries. If anyone has any concerns or information, please speak with them.

"Our thoughts continue to be with John’s family and friends, and we would ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.
