The New York Giants are in dire need of help at wide receiver to aid quarterback Daniel Jones this upcoming season.

A case could be made that the Giants currently have the worst receiving corp in the entire league, with no notable number one option currently on the roster. No receiver managed 750 receiving yards throughout the entire 2022 season for the Giants, with Darius Slayton leading the team with 724 and just two touchdowns.

Surprisingly, the Giants did not sign any of the big-name receivers in free agency, despite having cap space to do so. Instead, the Giants are believed to be looking to draft a number of receivers in this years class, adding much needed firepower to their offense after giving Jones his huge extension.

But with many believing this to be a weakened class, especially at the wide receiver position, the Giants may have to look at alternate options in order to find their man. One name who has been available, is Arizona Cardinals superstar DeAndre Hopkins.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror NFL , Giants legend Osi Umenyiora hopes that the team consider offering the Cardinals a deal at some point this weekend.

He said: "The one glaring need that they have is at wide receiver. We don't have a star, stud wide receiver and have not sign Odell Beckham Jr left. I would like to see them trade for Hopkins - he's been one of the best wide receivers in football for a long period of time.

"The only thing I think might be of concern is his contract situation - will they be able to pay that much money? But in terms of a football player he is a dominant player. If you add him to the mix in that offensive scheme he'll put up some huge numbers and help the Giants out quite a bit."

It might only take a second round pick to acquire Hopkins, which means a deal could be done on Friday night when day two gets underway. Day two was when Umenyiora was taken himself, with the Giants hitting big time on the pass-rusher from Troy - going on to register 85 sacks and win two Super Bowls with the franchise.

Over the next 72 hours, around 500 athletes will hope to hear their names called at the NFL Draft, and Umenyiora stated what those guys will be going through heading into the three-day period.

He said: "Some of the guys in the top 10 might already know where they are going after speaking with the teams. For everybody else, it's a long, long couple of days - your whole life is going to change and you know that, but you don't know what city you'll be moving to or what team you'll be playing for.

"Your situation can absolutely define your success. You could go to one team and be a bad player and be out the league in a year, and you can just as well go to another team and find yourself in the right situation and play for 10-15 years! A lot is riding on this day - it's an exciting and nerve-wracking time."
