Nottingham Trent University has been crowned University of the Year at the prestigious Whatuni Student Choice Awards.

The Whatuni Student Choice Awards are nominated and judged by real experts – students themselves.

This year saw 35,000 verified student reviews generated from more than 240 higher education institutions nationwide.

Acclaimed comedian and Sunday Times-bestselling author Ellie Taylor hosted this year's glamorous awards ceremony, celebrating the very best of university life across the country.

As well as collecting the much-coveted University of the Year award, Nottingham Trent University also took the top spot in the Postgraduate category and came second in the Student Life and International categories, confirming the huge level of positive support it enjoys from students.

Other highlights from the awards included:

•University College Birmingham scooped the International Award

•Aberystwyth University picked up two awards for Student Life and Lecturers & Teaching Quality

•The University of Sheffield triumphed in the hotly-contested 'Students' Union' category.

The national awards are run by Whatuni.com, an independent and trusted comparison site used by more than six million students each year, as they navigate their unique path to university.
