Five Standout Names and Overall Picks
Thanks to their trade with the Chicago Bears, the Carolina Panthers will have the pick of the bunch as they kick things off with the sought-after first overall pick.
Even whilst sat in a prominent position with the second overall pick, it’ll be the Houston Texans who are going to be busy with their joint-most 12 picks during the event. Also getting 12 picks are the LA Raiders as they look to strengthen with two picks inside the top 40, their first pick in at seventh.
Player Profile: C.J. Stroud - Quarterback
Stroud impressed a large Carolina contingent at Ohio State's pro day to solidify his case to be one of the top-two triggermen in this QB-rich draft class.
There are a couple of reasons why he might be the reason the Panthers felt they needed to get ahead of their rivals.
Joe Burrow backs Patrick Mahomes after Kansas City Chiefs reach Super BowlHe's five inches taller than Bryce Young, the other most-likely contender to hear his name called first, and height is often a factor in evaluating quarterbacks who need to see over tall linemen in order to scan for open targets across the middle of the field.
Panthers head coach Frank Reich, who hasn't started a QB who was under 6-2 in 17 years as a coach, spoke of durability being one of his chief considerations when assessing the prospects.
Whether Stroud's greater frame gives him an edge is open to debate, but his quick-release mechanics and superb accuracy on short to intermediate passes make him a good fit for the West Coast-style offense Reich will implement in Carolina.
Player Profile: Bryce Young - Quarterback
Young was measured at 5-10 1/8 and weighed in at just 204 pounds at the NFL Combine last month.
He didn't take part in the passing drills in Indianapolis, but put on a great show at Alabama's pro day last week to showcase the traits that make him so special.
The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner has proven leadership ability and can make all the throws, albeit with some minor reservations among the scouting fraternity about his high-end arm strength. He also appears to be a touch more mobile than Stroud and can slide outside the pocket to good effect too.
In his first season as a full-time starter for Alabama, Young completed 366 of 547 attempts (66.9%) for 4,872 yards, 47 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions.
Last year he completed 245 of 380 attempts for 3,345 yards, 32 touchdowns, and only five interceptions while playing for a Crimson Tide team that did not live up to their usual standards.
Player Profile: Will Anderson Jr – Outside Linebacker
Getting to the quarterback has never been more important in the NFL. With teams increasingly adopting a pass-first philosophy and a fresh influx of talented young throwers, players who can rush the passer become extremely valuable - which is why the top two picks last year were edge defenders.
Outside linebacker Anderson looks a sure-fire future star after back-to-back years of dominant play with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
NFL teams had shared theory on Tom Brady before second retirementThe 21-year-old was named the best defensive player in college football, the SEC defensive player of the year and a unanimous All-American in both 2021 and 2022.
He recorded 17.5 sacks and 34.5 tackles for loss, both of which led the nation, the year before last and demonstrated another string to his bow when returning an interception 25 yards for a touchdown last season.
Player Profile: Will Levis - Quarterback
Levis is built like a linebacker and has a rocket arm that can make his passes audibly whistle through the air.
But questions remain about his ability on touch passes to all three levels, while some inconsistencies have been seen when he rolls to his left in the face of pressure.
There has been talk that the Kentucky QB could slide to late in the first round on draft day, but the upside he possesses should make some general managers think twice about that.
Player Profile: Jaxon Smith-Njigba – Wide Receiver
Smith-Njigba barely saw any action during the 2022 season because of injuries, but his abilities have not gone unnoticed among NFL scouts.
He led Ohio State in receptions back in 2021 ahead of last year's first-round WRs Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, who both went on to have stellar rookie seasons in the NFL, and future first-rounder Marvin Harrison Jr.
He gave scouts a timely reminder of his speed at the Buckeyes' pro day by blazing 40-yard time in the 4.48-4.52 range and worked out in a fashion that looked just like his eye-popping game film from his sophomore year.

NFL Draft 2023 News
Where might players head?
From the Arizona Cardinals, to the Washington Commanders, all 32 NFL franchises face an anxious yet exciting week, as they hone in on their key targets. Cannon-armed Quarterbacks are often desired, with teams swooning over light-footed giants and speedy game changers.
Wherever their home will be, bet365 have you covered on some big draft names and where they will ply their trade in the new season:
(Quarterback) shot to the top of many scouting lists again after a stupendous NFL Combine showing. The Gainesville-born QB threw for 529 yards, six TDs and five interceptions with a 59.4 completion rate and added three rushing scores. He took over the starting job in 2022 when Jones transferred and led Florida to a shocking upset of then-No. 7 Utah in Week 1.. – Indiana Colts 5/2, Tennessee Titans 11/4, Las Vegas Raiders 7/2, Seattle Seahawks 8/1, Detroit Lions 12/1
(Running Back) won The Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back and he was also a first-team Associated Press All-American and All-Big 12 selection in 2022. He was universally recognized as the best running back in the draft before the NFL Combine, proving his worth in Indianapolis by running a rapid 4.46 40-yard dash and tacking an impressive 37″ vertical jump to his résumé. – Atlanta Falcons 7/2, Dallas Cowboys 6/1, Washington Commanders 7/1, LA Chargers 9/1, Cincinnati Bengals 9/1, Detroit Lions 9/1
(Quarterback) threw his name into the ring for the Heisman award last year, with throwing stats of 3135 yards. Things looked pretty as he notched up 27 touchdowns but tearing his ACL in November halted progression on those numbers. Silver linings for him came as he was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year. – Minnesota Vikings 15/2, Detroit Lions 9/1, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 12/1, Las Vegas Raiders 14/1, Dallas Cowboys 14/1, Tennessee Titans 14/1
(Running Back), a 99 th percentile in the Combine’s 40-yard dash, running 4.36s, which will make a few franchises stand to attention. Married with his natural ability to receive the ball, there’s no surprise he obtained AP third-team All-American honours. – Cincinnati Bengals 11/2, Dallas Cowboys 11/2, Kansas City Chiefs 6/1, Buffalo Bills 13/2, New England Patriots 12/1
(Wide Receiver) was a standout performer in 2022, with three touchdowns and 15 catches for 347 receiving yards at the Rose Bowl. Quick in short areas, tremendous footwork and some safe hands absolutely valid the interest in Ohio State’s 21 year-old. – Houston Texans 4/1, Chicago Bears 7/1, New England Patriots 9/1, Baltimore Ravens 10/1, Green Bay Packers 10/1
(Tight End) cemented himself into the Notre Dame history books as he became one of their all-time receptions leader with 180 catches for over 2000 yards. Arguably the ‘jack of all trades’ in the NFL Draft choice of Tight Ends, and oozes an educated footballing mind. – Dallas Cowboys 7/2, Green Bay Packers 4/1, Los Angeles Chargers 13/2, Detroit Lions 7/1, Cincinnati Bengals 8/1
(Wide Receiver) was a four-star prospect as he entered his college years. A solid 2022 saw him get 60 catches for over 1000 yards, with a touchdown ratio just under 1-in-2. Built for all occasions with his speed, sharpness and size with big-play ability. – Minnesota Vikings 15/2, Baltimore Ravens 9/1, New York Giants 10/1, Buffalo Bills 10/1, Kansas City Chiefs 10/1, Los Angeles Rams 10/1
(Quarterback) is arguably the most polarizing prospect among this year's deep quarterback class because he has the size, arm strength, quick release, experience in a pro-style offense and mobility to make a seamless transition to the NFL. – Indiana Colts 6/4, Houston Texans 11/5, Las Vegas Raiders 6/1, Tennessee Titans 10/1, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14/1
Who will go first from their respective positions?
After three 2000-yard seasons on the bounce it is ‘complete package’ Bijan Robinson who is heavy favourite to be the first Running Back to be picked at 1/100. Alabama’s Jahmyr Gibbs is second at odds of 16/1 thanks to his notorious speed and quick feet, with Zach Charbonnet third favourite at 80/1.
Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba 1/3 looks to be the first Wide Receiver to be picked after his impressive 2022 form before injury. At 5/1, second favourite Zay Flowers looks a desirable option with his route running and ability to shake coverage. Jordan Addison is a solid third favourite at 15/2.
There’s a pairing who stand above the rest in this year’s draft, with Michael Mayer’s 5/8 odds making him just about top pick, with Dalton Kincaid a close second at 5/4. Either could go first, with Kincaid’s age and injury history just making the difference it seems. Darnell Washington’s 6’7″, 264 pound, attributes make him third likely to go first with 12/1 odds.
The Offensive Linesmen are up, and Paris Johnson is top of the list at 4/6 based on his experience playing either on the edge or the inside. Another likely day one starter, and another top tackle target is Peter Skoronski with 7/4 odds based on his footwork and technical prowess. It’s the physical Darnell Wright as third favourite first picked tackle, 7/1.
Drew Sanders is evens at 1/1 to be the first Linebacker called. The developing playmaker has tremendous talent, and his versatility makes his even more sought after. With size and strength to spare, 6/5 Jack Campbell is the hard-hitting man to potentially be selected first. Clemson’s speedy Trenton Simpson is 5/1.
Primed and ready with tight, man-to-man, coverage, it’s Devon Witherspoon who is 1/2 to become the Cornerback to find his franchise first. In second is Christian Gonzalez at 6/4, fresh off earning first-team All-Pac-12 honours. Penn State’s Joey Porter Jr is an outside first choice at 22/1.
In a selection of the first non-Quarterbacks to be picked, it’s Alabama’s strong, speedy and lengthy edge rusher Will Anderson who’s likely to go first at 1/2. Backed to immediately improve any side with his huge potential, Tyree Wilson is another popular edge rusher at 7/4 to be picked first. Interior Defensive Lineman, Jalen Carter, is third favourite to be picked first with 11/2 odds highlighting his ability to move so easily as a big unit.
