Jesy Nelson has been dealt a career setback after her new single Bad Thing failed to make a major impact on the charts.

Bad Thing was released on April 14, the former Little Mix singer's second single after controversy over her first solo attempt, Boyz, released in October 2021. ]

However, the ballad has not been included in the Official Singles Chart Top 100, after it was updated on Sunday, and the music video has yet to hit one million views, currently at 42,100.

The 1970s style video, set in the dark underbelly of London’s East End’s, chronicles an abusive relationship, with a domestic abuse charity praising the piece for the realistic depiction.

"I don’t feel like anyone’s heard this side of me before, it’s a real, raw, honest, vulnerable side to me," Jesy confessed ahead of the single becoming available to buy and stream.

The 31-year-old singer sparked controversy in 2021 when she unleashed her collaboration with Nicki Minaj – to the chorus of accusations she was guilty of appropriating black culture in her accompanying music video.

Afterwards, Jesy parted ways with record label Polydor, with a source saying the popstar was on good terms with the label but the two parties had been "going in different directions" over her music.

Appearing on This Morning last week, Jesy said she feels "empowered" in her solo career after leaving Little Mix in 2021, following nearly 10 years.

Speaking to hosts Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Hume, Jesy said being on her own has pushed her to better herself and move out of her comfort zone.

"It's given me a real sense of independence and control which I love. I feel really empowered and realised that I don't need big record labels to put out my own music," Jesy explained.

It comes after Jesy took to Instagram on Tuesday night to discuss her recent interview with The Sun where she said she hasn't spoken to her former band mates in two years.

Jesy broke down in tears as she claimed the interview was 'taken out of context' and was more focused on her leaving the group and their so-called feud.

The singer had told The Sun that she hasn't spoken to the trio – whom she won The X Factor alongside in 2011 – since quitting the band two years ago.

"So no, we haven’t talked since then. Never say never, but I honestly wish them the best on their solo journeys now, which is so exciting.

"I think that is what is so exciting about all of us. We are all musically different styles. I think we will all go in our own lane."

Discussing her decision to leave, Jesy revealed she had no "regrets" and said she'll "always cherish the memories" made during her time in the pop group.
