Camilla, Queen Consort, is the most senior female member of the royal family and will become our fully-fledged Queen at the coronation of King Charles III.

She will be crowned with a recycled Queen Mary's Crown, with the controversial Koh-i-Noor diamond removed, and several pieces from the late Queen Elizabeth II's personal jewellery collection added. All this pomp and circumstance is, of course, a far cry from her days of being merely 'The Other Woman'.

Battling for Charles' affection as he struggled in his marriage to Princess Diana, the 'love triangle of the century' cast a long and far-reaching shadow over Camilla for years.

Openly mocked and vilified, public opinion has softened over time, with many feeling she ably carried out her role as the Duchess of Cornwall with good grace. Her rise in popularity was helped by the open endorsement of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who said it was her 'sincere wish' that Camilla be known as Queen Consort.

But will Camilla make a good Queen ? Many remark upon her dry wit and self-deprecating humour, and she's seen as refreshingly down-to-earth in many circles. She also has a serious side, frequently championing women’s causes – from helping survivors of sexual and domestic abuse to raising awareness of the bone disease osteoporosis.

Over the years, Camilla has been very vocal about animal welfare, homelessness and literacy, even launching an online reading club. Of course, her duties will only grow after the coronation.

Camilla may well wonder how she got here - and some of us might, too - but we're on the cusp of a new era and there's no looking back now.
