It's official, rapper and marijuana enthusiast Afroman is in the running for President of the United States of America in 2024.

The 48-year-old rapper, best known for his 2000s track Because I Got High and most recent track Famous Player, has officially filed papers and started the process to run for the Presidency.

Back in December 2022, the musician - real name Joseph Edgar Foreman - unveiled his plans to campaign for the White House while on stage, and now it seems as though he is one step closer to his goal.

While on stage last year, he candidly made the unexpected revelation when he said: "Can I make the biggest announcement I ever made in my life?

"We gonna get legal weed everywhere."

And now making his dream a reality, Joseph has filed papers to the Federal Elections Commission to get the ball rolling - officially.

Reports say that it is believed Afroman filed the documents on April 18 to coincide with 4/20 on April 20, which is a day celebrated by marijuana smokers worldwide.

According to the US site TMZ, the rapper has named his presidential committee "Joseph Afroman Foreman for President".

His campaign manager, Jason Savage, announced his candidacy on his behalf last December.

When he did, he cited inflation, the housing market, law enforcement corruption, and legalizing marijuana as key issues of his campaign.

"There comes a time in the course of human events when change must be affected," Jason penned on Instagram.

He added: "That time is now. Americans are suffering, and the status quo is no longer acceptable."

Since filing the papers this month and getting things in order for his campaign, Afroman has set out his eight main priorities for candidacy.

The first on his agenda is the decriminalisation of cannabis, and other natural substances with low harm profiles, with him stating it will be his "top priority" should he get elected.
