Monkey gang crushes toddler to death after pushing giant boulder off roof

A helpless toddler was crushed to death after monkeys pushed a boulder onto his head.

Devunuri Abhinav was playing outside in the Indian village of Katukuri when tragedy struck.

A group of monkeys began jumping around, causing the boulder to fall off a tin roof and crush the three-year-old.

His death added to growing concerns around violent monkeys in the village in Telangana province.

Some residents claimed the monkeys had already plagued the area for some time.

Little Devunuri had recently survived a near-death experience when he fell onto a knife that pierced his throat.

His parents, named locally as Rajitha and Srikanth, had paid the equivalent of for over £4,800 - for their child to undergo lifesaving surgery.

The tot had almost completely recovered from his ordeal six months ago when the monkeys caused him to be crushed to death, according to local media.

MP Raj Kumar Chahar had recently raised concerns in Parliament about threatening monkeys.

He asked to confirm how much relief the state awards to monkey attack victims.

It comes after the ministry of environment, forest and climate change revealed it did not know how many people have been injured or killed from monkey bites in the country.
