One proud homeowner has been told the reason they're struggling to sell their property is because of the shelves full of books in the bathroom.

Many of us enjoy a soak in the bath every now and again and will have a tome to hand to read in the tub. Despite this, the bookworm has been slammed by her pal for the 'disgusting' bathroom choice, leaving them completely baffled.

The friend's reaction to the books being kept in the bathroom has caused heated debate online, as people really can't see the issue. The homeowner is questioning whether she should strip her loo of the books to improve her chances of selling the properly.

In a letter to House & Garden, the person, who remained anonymous, wrote: "My house is on the market but is not getting as many viewings as I would like. One of my friends says it's because the estate agent's photographs show that I keep books in the loo – which, she reckons, is disgusting.

"I've got a bath in there too, and I've always thought a good book is an essential accompaniment to a lengthy soak. Equally though, I want to sell my house, so – do I need to rearrange my library?"

On Facebook, many were quick to react to the homeowner's conundrum.

One wrote: "I agree with your friend - I would not view".

Meanwhile, others disagreed, as one said: "A soak with a book sounds heavenly. There must be book stands for baths!"

Another stated: "Imagine taking a nice long bubble bath and having the convenience of a good book to choose from [a] gorgeous bookshelf."

"I love it...people read in the loo...all the time! Anyway if a buyer doesn't like it they can change it ...you need buyers with imagination & who like old houses + reading," somebody else noted.
