The victim of a horrific dog attack has revealed a "young girl" was also one of the people hospitalised by the attack in Birmingham.

Simon Edge was walking home in the Birmingham district of Summerfield when he was suddenly set upon by two large dogs that bit him repeatedly.

The dad-of-one was left with a series of wounds on his lower back, arm and torso before the dogs ran off to attack others. A young girl was also attacked.

He told Birmingham Live two dogs came "bounding" towards him during the nightmare attack.

Simon, founder of not-for-profit The Real Junk Food Project Central, said: "I had just been to the dentist. It happened on Barford Road, around 50 yards from Willow Gardens.

"These two dogs came bounding towards me. I don't know what breed they were but they were big. One was a bluey grey, the other was chocolate brown, black. I sort of moved out the way a bit and they set about me."

Simon was left to stagger home before attending City Hospital's A&E and he suddenly found himself waiting with other victims; including a young girl, one of his neighbours, and the relative of a man who had been bitten.

The dog attack left a total of six victims with injuries, though none were life-threatening.

Armed Police approached the scene and the seized dogs are now in kennels.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog that was dangerously out of control.

Simon continued: "I got bitten four times, twice on the lower back, on the left arm and once on the left hand side of my torso. There was a car next to me with a lady inside and she was screaming with her hands up.

"The dogs let me go and ran off in the direction of the Muslim Funeral Directors on Barford Road. I went home and my wounds were stinging."

Simon was advised to go to A&E when he called the police to the scene, who told him that they had received reports from other people and a specialist team was attending.

He said: "As I went to City Hospital, I saw police going to Barford Road. When I got to A&E, the lady who I had seen in the car sat next to me. She said someone she knew had got attacked as well.

"Behind me, I noticed a neighbour of mine who had been attacked. Then in front of me, there was a young girl, maybe 14 or 15 and she had been attacked - her arms were bandaged.

"I got the impression that my injuries were mild in comparison to hers. It was a shock. The young girl asked me how long the attack lasted. It felt like eternity but it was less than a minute."

The attack left Simon needing to be cleaned up at the hospital and given a tetanus jab and antibiotics, he said.
