Police in the northeast released two new images of a man they hoped to speak to in connection with an ongoing rape investigation.

Cleveland Police received reports a woman in her 30s was raped behind a library in Hartlepool on April 8.

The force said the suspect is described as "around 38 years old with blonde hair in a bun" with an Eastern European accent.

The alleged incident took place behind the library on York Road in the town at about 4.30am.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Officers investigating a rape in Hartlepool have released new CCTV images of a man they want to speak to. The images show the man leaving The Showroom bar on Victoria Road in the town in the early hours of Saturday, April 8.

"Police received a report that a woman in her 30s was raped behind the library on York Road around 4.30am on Saturday, April 8."

CCTV images of the man showed him leaving Harletpool's Showroom bar in the early hours of the morning.

Officers believe this individual may be able to assist them with ongoing inquiries into the reported attack.

The force is appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or near Loons Bar.

The spokesperson added: "Officers are keen to trace the man in the image as he may be able to assist with enquiries. It is hoped that witnesses, or someone who knows the man, may recognise him from the new images released and come forward with information.

"Police would also like to appeal to anyone who was in the area around the library or near Loons Bar on Victoria Road around the time of the incident, as it is believed there were people in the area around the time who may be able to assist with enquiries.

"The suspect is described as around 38 years old with blonde hair in a bun, wearing grey and black clothing. He is believed to have spoken with an Eastern European accent.

"Any witnesses or anyone who may know the identity of the person in the CCTV image, is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting incident number 065835.
