However, it was the role of one "unsung hero" which really got fans talking on social media.

Foreign exchange student Danny Meng candidly discussed the moments which saw him become directly involved in the eventual tracking down of the pair labelled the Boston Bombers.

CCTV footage mirrored Danny's words as he explained the scary moment the duo, brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, hijacked his car in the days after the bombings.

Describing how he didn't know if he would be killed by the pair, he talked through the exact moment he decided to flee for his life - and in doing so was able to help police track down the killer brothers, who also shot dead a police officer in the aftermath of the bombings.

Danny was somehow able to reel off his Mercedes vehicle's GPS tracking number after amazingly memorising it, allowing the cops to instantly locate the stolen car and the brothers who were in it.

And fans on Twitter were in unison for their praise for the former student. One user shared a still from the series of Danny talking and wrote: "All I’ve got to say about this man is not all heroes wear capes."

Another added: "WHY DOESN'T ANYONE TALK ABOUT DANNY MENG?" Bullet pointing their point, they said: "car hijacked @ gunpoint by the bombers, held hostage, escapes, calls law enforcement, has his GPS NUMBER MEMORIZED, enabling forces to track the stolen car, leading them to the bombers???" before saying: "What a goddamn hero #AmericanManhunt."

A third described how they were shocked to have never heard of him before, writing: "Watching American Manhunt - the Boston bombings doco and it's outrageous that I'd never heard of Danny Meng's bravery that led to the bombers being found."

And it was a similar view for another viewer, who said: "Just finished the American manhunt documentary and I have a lot of opinions. One being Danny Meng basically did more in two hours by being a literal hostage than anyone. Man had his car GPS tracking device literally memorized what a goat."
