Fitzpatrick secures first PGA Tour title since US Open with RBC Heritage victory
Matt Fitzpatrick has secured his first PGA Tour title since becoming a major champion at last year's US Open after claiming victory at the RBC Heritage.
Fitzpatrick added a second Tour crown to the one he famously won at Brookline 10 months ago. The victory was arguably as impressive as his major triumph, after seeing off a whole host of big names to get his hands on the trophy.
The Englishman headed into the final round with a one shot lead ahead of Patrick Cantlay, with the likes of Jordan Spieth, Tommy Fleetwood and Scottie Scheffler also within touching distance of top spot.
Impressively Fitzpatrick held his nerve - and the lead - throughout Sunday's final round, but was matched by the chasing Spieth, who forced the US Open champion into a play-off as both ended their 72 holes at 17-under-par. The 28-year-old had two golden chances to claim the title across the opening two extra holes, but saw putts on both greens roll past.
He finally capitalised though one hole later after flying a superb approach shot from the 18th fairway to within two feet of the hole. With Spieth having to settle for par, Fitzpatrick's kick in birdie proved enough to get him back into the PGA Tour's winners' circle.

Similar to his US Open victory at Brookline, winning the RBC Heritage was a sentimental win for Fitzpatrick having holidayed around Harbour Town with his family as a child. After getting his hands on the trophy, he said: "It's a course I dreamed of playing when I was young.
"I feel like I have been very lucky in my career - I have won a major and now this. This is very special." Speaking to Sky Sports Golf, he added: "Of every single one on the calendar, this is the one I wanted to win the most.
